I picked pine mushrooms for about twenty years until all the good spots were logged off and now it will probably take 500 to 1000 years before they come back in any quantity. They need old growth for the mycelium to mature.
Not true . Most of my favorite patches are in second and third growth .
Mind you the only old growth in my neck of the woods is in parks and hence unavailable.
but I have filled my trunk with buds on more than one occasion .
When the duff if burned off in a prescribed burn and/or the land is scarified, it will take hundreds of years for the mycelium of a pine to make a come back. Although I live in a rare inland temperate rain forest. the climate is drying up because of extensive logging. On the coast the moisture comes of the ocean but this far inland a lot of it is generated by the ecosystems. Ocean moisture has to jump over the arid Okanagan to get here.
My friends harvested 20 lbs. in 2 hours 2 days in a row in the Forquer ( spelling wrong ) Ferry area this fall .Right in your neck of the woods I believe . Not much old growth around there .
If you want to know what your region looked like 3000 years ago, look at north west Washington today.
How do I know? I've learned a lot from people in every discipline under the sun who are fascinated with the goings on from surface to bedrock who tag along to get a peak at exploration tailings analyzing everything that has happened in that place for millions of years.
How about you?
If you figure there is a mycelium shortage, go buy a few boxes and inoculate. Monsanto sells it.

No not the pine mycelium ,despite centuries of effort in Japan and lately here in N.A. pine mushrooms have yet to be
domestically cultured .
B.C Where you can go snowshoeing in the morning and swim in a lake in the afternoon.
Where you can ski Cypress bowl in pants and a halter top.
Black Mountain (Eagle Ridge), at the top you can watch the clouds float below you.
Stawanamous Cheif, Granite monolith. You can climb 3 peaks and watch rock climbers coming up. We did second and third peak last year and there was a hiking group there and the youngest person was 60yrs old.
Cool . I always liked skiing swimming and golfing on the same day .
BC where panhandling is a good paying job.
BC where jibrats scurry around stealing copper wire.
BC Where people smoke indoor weed and eat salad year round and call themselves green.
BC where nobody speaks the language.
Also a grain of truth . So that can be found everywhere .
That is silly. The east coast is wetter and colder, underemployed, almost always in a recession and has been over fished to the point that they have to move to Alberia to find work.
Welcome to the world of Canadian politics . Hey but the Irvin's are liberals .
You have to move from the East Coast to Alberta to find fish. There are not many lobsters, there ... just some mutant crayfish near the tailings ponds but I understand that you can get crabs in Ft. McMurray.
Yup just as easily as in South ***** Newfoundland .
