This morning bureaucrats from the Finance Dep't released their regular report........in the first four months of the fiscal year of 2008 (up to the end of July), the Canadian gov't has had a surplus of 1.7 billion dollars.

So much for the accusations of Conservative deficit spending.........it is not happening.....just more bafflegab and BS.

That surplus could disappear pretty quick if the government has to intervene in the markets like the US government did.

Given the Cons tendency to spend whilst telling everyone else to tighten their belts, it won't last long, if, if fact, it exists.

That surplus was before paying the hydro bill.

Well, they've had over 2 1/2 years now...........

I don't think the surplus would last long under the Libs, the NDP, or the Greens.....if they kept any of their extravagent election promises, anyway.

Go CPC!! :)

Was that the delay in dropping one percent from the GST? Flaherty had a talent for making surpluses appear by magic in Harris' government too. Rob Peter to pay Paul financing can hardly be called responsible ... or real. Amazing how many hungry paper shredders ate at Queens Park after Harris got the boot.

I like the fact that they have paid 40 billion off the bloody Quebec prime ministers' debt since they took office in 2006.

Desperation on the Tory camp is mounting by the minute. This manipulating propaganda is simply a diversion tacktic to take the bad optics away from the Cons….

Colpy you are a knowledgeable fellow politically, it is not over until is over…. I will make you a prediction today and take me up on it after the election……There will be an alliance between two parties at the end in an effort to stop a Harper majority……... Yes Harper is desperate to get a majority; he knows that to bring the Conservatives back with a minority is like inviting Harper for a stake diner and instead of steak you feed him hot dogs……. Harper fears that…:lol::lol::lol:.

Now Socrates, are you saying Harper was right in resisting Elizabeth May's entry into the debates?

Because, as you know, Harper said he did so partly because he expects May to throw her support to the Liberals come election day........

Anything is possible, the NDP AND THE BLOCK WOULD GET TOGETHER AND FORM AN ALLIANCE IN QUEBEC
May could join Dion, NDP could join the Liberals there is good potential here… So it is not over until is over and my prediction is, it could be a minority Conservative mandate or a minority Liberal mandate…Not a Conservative majority…….

Conservative Leader Stephen Harper's contemptuous attitude toward high culture has earned him a furious reaction from Canada's artistic community, including a scathing commentary in yesterday's Globe by Margaret Atwood. But it should be nearly as upsetting to fellow Conservatives, who may be seeing their party's chance of a majority slip away.

Two parties? Why just two parties? Really, aren't there just two parties already for all intents and purposes?
There's the one party that's a bit right of center, and the other party all over the left extremes with four names
and leaders that are too busy hacking and attacking each other to realize that individually, they've already lost.
Just a Western perspective by a regular Joe on his coffee break.

Ron good contribution, even though it is only two main parties fighting for the job the formation of an alliance between the sleeper parties will cause this election to bring a minority Government………………You know that is a very near possibility…..
Layton could not form an alliance with the Conservatives, May will not form an alliance with the Conservatives, Looking at all the anecdotes a majority is shrinking by the day for the Conservatives…….. I live the rest until October the 14th …….

Mararet Atwood is exactly the kind of elitist, arrogant, condescending twit that the people of Canada, in general, don't give a damn about.

And, she couldn't write a decent obituary. I tried reading her......nope.

According to right wing opinion, many from the Liberals the NDP the Green, particularly the block…are lovers of the Arts and Culture, make no mistake about this one, the Arts and Culture Quebeckers love dearly, being that they have a deep desire to preserve the Francophone culture in a sea of Anglophones……

So, discounting the fact that the big top people from the Arts and Culture world in Quebec are standing up to Harper’s dull view of a colorful Canada, that will have a negative impact on the Conservative popularity during this campaign….in Quebec and I am sure the rest of the none Conservative voting public…...
