Senior Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has voiced doubts about Sarah Palin's qualifications for the vice-presidency.

John McCain's running mate "doesn't have any foreign policy credentials", Mr Hagel told the Omaha World-Herald.

Mr Hagel was a prominent supporter of Mr McCain during his 2000 bid for the US presidency, but has declined to endorse either candidate this year.

He was opposed to the Iraq War, and recently joined Mr McCain's rival Barack Obama on a Middle East trip.

'Stop the nonsense'

"I think it's a stretch to, in any way, to say that she's got the experience to be president of the United States," Mr Hagel told the Omaha World-Herald newspaper.

And he was dismissive of the fact that Mrs Palin, the governor of Alaska, has made few trips abroad.
"You get a passport for the first time in your life last year? I mean, I don't know what you can say. You can't say anything."

Mr Hagel also criticised the McCain campaign for its suggestion that the proximity of Alaska to Russia gave Mrs Palin foreign policy experience.

"I think they ought to be just honest about it and stop the nonsense about, 'I look out my window and I see Russia and so therefore I know something about Russia'," he said.

"That kind of thing is insulting to the American people."

BBC North America editor Justin Webb says Mr Hagel's opinion of Mrs Palin will have an effect on independent voters.

A senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Mr Hagel was a close ally of Mr McCain, but the two men parted company over the decision to go to war in Iraq.

Mr Hagel skipped this year's Republican National Convention in favour of a visit to Latin America.

Mr Hagel's decision to accompany Mr Obama this summer on a trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, as part of a US Congressional delegation, led to speculation that he would throw his support behind the Democratic nominee.
However, a spokesman for the Nebraska senator insisted in August that "Senator Hagel has no intention of getting involved in any of the campaigns and is not planning to endorse either candidate".

Well there you have it.... I didn't think I would see the day, but there it is... a Republican actually making sense.

Hey, she won a beauty contest. Didn't that count for something?

Hey, she won a beauty contest. Didn't that count for something?

Yeah and I won the "Mr. Nice Guy" award during my High School Winter Carnival back in 1998.....

Does that count for something?

Not really, since I'm still an ass.

Sometimes people are left to chose the lesser of all other evils.... and if she won a beauty contest..... the pickings must have been slim.

No kidding unqualified in the worst way, looking at here hockey mom credentials as she stated she is a “pit-bull of a mom” and because of that, if she ever had to take over from McCain, as the first woman American President, Osama will be soooooooo intimidated….
She doesn’t have foreign affairs credentials…..she would look like a fool wearing the presidential shoe…

Biden said Obama's not fit, too.

Walter did you just get up from bed? That must have been a disappointing dream…I know you are only steering the dirt around, in order to get a laugh or two, nothing wrong with that….. But no Biden did not say that unless you have a link…….

Side note:

Reality check here:

She's running for VICE president. The job commonly reffered to as "not worth a bucket of warm piss"

It is the do nothing posts of do nothing posts. The Issue is Obama and McCain, not Palin and Biden.

Nobody in either party has an executive experience (except Palin actually) and most presidents never have more than 4 years of it at the end of their term. Likewise, foreign policy is not something anyone really has, not in the capacity of president.

Everyone is busy screaming in a nutshell "you don't have any experience being president!"

well guess what, no one running does.

Zzarchov, considering the advanced age of McCain, the Vice Presidential candidate is quite important in this election. Can you imagine if McCain croaks and she is to run the country? Yikes...

Actually, we go to Cuba's warm beaches and we watch British TV shows after you copy them and get rid of the annoying limey accents.

Movies, well duh, its hollywood baby. Saying you watch American movies is like saying you like Chinese egg rolls. Hollywood, the only place in America you can spend years without seeing an actual american :)

Its not like he's liable to croak realistically. He isn't that old.

Lets be fair here, he's upper class with the best medical treatment available. The odds he will die in the next 4 years are pretty slim. Assasination is a much more likely cause of presidential death, and Obama is just a big a target for that.

Some do...but not more than a handful when you think about it. If you can count me, Thomaska, and maybe three others a flock compared to the population of the US...hardly a grain of sand on a beach.

Yeah but I only turn this on during the day at work. This thing is going non-stop about the USA...24/7. All weekend you folks go on. I am about to leave work soon and will have to catch up with the laughs on Monday! I just have the type of job that allows me to chime in every so often. To others here...it is their life to look south and say...

"Why them? Why not us?"
