Yet you started a thread on an Olympic story. So, apparently you do care, or maybe you're just continuing your gold medal performance in spam posting. I think you beat a few members in here by a millisecond. Congrats, maybe Wheaties will put your moniker on the next box, after Phelps of course! :p

Hey...it was your post... Now I shall GLOAT over your feeble attempts to tarnish another US accomplishment because you are jealous. You felt compelled to post and now you once again look like a fool.

A whiny kid on the playground after you lose a game. They cheated! Wahhhh! Wahhh!

Remember something please...

Phelps had no control over what the underwater camera/timer registered.

He is blessed with anatomy which gives him long arms and long fingers.

I happened to see that event and when he surfaced he suspected he came in second too because the team was lagging and Cavic had some amazing timing as well.

What I saw (at the mercy of television transmission) was Cavic misplaced his hand on the touchpad.... and did not register until 1/10th of a second later than Phelps who had come up right after but had registered accurately on the touchpad. Obeying the rules of the win - Phelps was the Gold in that event....no matter what the spinmeisters try to print about contractural arrangements with Omega and other sponsors. After the money, time and training an athlete puts in for much of his/her youth - why not compensation if they get lucky. It's called democracy. I wonder how many of the Chinese athletes will see anything in the way of profit from their wonderfully impressive demonstations.

One thing I really dislike about critics of the athletes is when they complain an athlete is cheating. How could an athlete cheat when so much observation and attention to detail is being placed on his/her performance and timing.

Both Phelps and Calvic were great representatives of all the good Olympic athletes demonstrate.

If you want to see some crude and ignorant "sportsmanship" - have a look at the Chinese baseball pitcher who hit one batter down in the head and five others during the same game - and finally after much protesting was ejected by the "judges".
Now that's the kind of stuff nobody needs to put up with - he is a disgrace to his nation and all the other athletes who strive so hard to win a spot in the Games.http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=872_1219146951

I believe they are testing for drug abuse now having refined their methods from previous years. Personally I have a problem with professionals playing in the events but if they take no compensation for their time at the Olympics
I guess they've already worked out those issues.

Or the Cuban that kicked a judge upside his head after he was disqualified for sitting on the mat too long after getting his butt kicked.

If you truly believe Phelps cheated on that win - will you please explain how he did it?

As it was....

The results would have been challenged by other judges, opposing teams, replays of the timing device were checked and its accuracy also.

If one was to cheat there are easier ways to cheat than an underwater clock which can time in tenths of seconds while being electronically photographed for all to see.

The argument posited here is just an angry temper tantrum beneath the originators and the perps who want to prolong the issue. It's sour grapes - a malady which often occurs in sports of all kinds - pro and amateur.

  • As per those same FINA rules, Phelps' hands are clearly NOT touching the pad simultaneously. (Source: Michael Kappeler/AFP/Getty Images, August 16)

You mean eight golds I think, no?

Sour grapes indeed. Phelps is the man. Fourteen Gold medals in his olympic career, with good years ahead of him yet.

Cheated? I think not.

I think he is so dominant at what he does because of genetics rather than cheating. He has many features that make him suited to swimming, and he does not need any means of cheating to allow him to win. If a person wins the medals fair and square I see no reason why I should begrudge his victories.

He could not have been so dominant if this is what happen earlier could he..?

Everone can have an off day. Perhaps if we were machines instead of human that wouldn't be the case. Look at Tiger Woods. He is dominant at golf, but he can still lose tournaments. The same for Roger Federer in tennis. No one is perfect, but they can still be dominant at their chosen sport.

Well by my reckoning he had three off days ...

(Qualifying session)
(Semifinal session)
(Medals session)

possibly four if you count the actual race itself..???

uh huh, OR

the OTHER Swimmer ,Cavic, had an off day

OR he didn't push himself to his limit just to win a qualifier

Point is Cavic lost, thats why we have an actual event instead of just picking the winner of the qualifier.
