Trump v. United States—which expanded presidential immunity for official acts—as a foundational legal shift that emboldened the president to direct DOJ prosecutorial decisions more explicitly.

Just two days after Election Day, two House Democrats
voiced their support of impeaching GOP officials like Attorney General Todd Blanche and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. This came shortly after Democrats seized control of the House and the Senate after winning tough races in battleground states like Texas, Michigan, Maine, Kansas, Iowa and Ohio. President Donald Trump said the Justice Department should
investigate Democrats’ “threats” to probe Republican lawmakers and donors after members of the minority party announced sweeping plans to tackle what they see as widespread corruption upon taking control of both chambers of Congress on January 3rd next year. “Mr. President, your threats of legal action and worse didn’t work when you tried to criminally indict me in front of a grand jury last February. Or when you threatened it again last month,” Slotkin
posted Saturday on X, adding that Trump should focus on ending the Iran war and tariffs.
