In a Palestinian Youth Movement NYC Instagram video, Adalah co-vessel organizer Rosa Martinez said that
the goals of the April and May flotillas had been misrepresented in the media.
A Gaza flotilla participant and well-known New York City anti-Israel activist said on Sunday that
the primary objective of the blockade run on Gaza last week was not to deliver humanitarian aid,
but to confront the Israel Defense Force (IDF) and draw attention to the Palestinian cause
.
In a Palestinian Youth Movement NYC Instagram video,
Adalah co-vessel organizer Rosa Martinez said that the goals of the April and May flotillas had been misrepresented in the media as 'some sort of humanitarian aid mission.'
'I think that's kind of flattening what it is that we're doing. Yes, there is aid. The aid that we have isn't sufficient to the structural issues in a post 'ceasefire' Gaza,' said Martinez, who is also known by the forename Rudy, said upon his return to the United States.
Martinez is also well known for his confrontation with pro-Israel influencer Rachel Herman in December 2023, in which he described the
October 7 Massacre as 'one of the greatest days of my life.'

Italy probing possibility that flotilla activists were sexually assaulted in Israeli custody, source says
As of Saturday, Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir "is banned from entering French territory," FM Jean-Noel Barrot announced on X, days after the far-right politician posted a video of Israeli law enforcement dragging activists from a Gaza-bound flotilla across the floor of a makeshift detainment center as he waves an Israeli flag and yells: "Welcome to Israel. We're the landlords."
The video was widely condemned by Israel's Western allies, and even rebuked by PM Netanyahu, who said Ben-Gvir's conduct was "not in line with Israel's values and norms." FM Gideon Sa'ar said the minister "knowingly damaged the country with this horrendous charade, and not for the first time."
On Saturday, Barrot said that "along with my Italian counterpart, I am asking the European Union to also" sanction Ben-Gvir. A day prior, the Global Sumud Flotilla said several of the activists were hospitalized after Israel released them, and that at least 15 of them claimed they had been sexually assaulted during their detainment.
A German Foreign Ministry spokesperson said some nationals had been injured and that some of their accusations were "serious," without giving further details, but adding that "we naturally expect a full explanation." In Italy, a legal source told Reuters that prosecutors will hear testimonies from activists who have returned, and are investigating the possibility that they were sexually assaulted.
Reuters was not able to verify the allegations independently, and an Israeli prison service spokesperson called them "false and entirely without factual basis," adding that "all prisoners and detainees are held in accordance with the law, with full regard for their basic rights."
Also on Friday, one of the released activists, Dr. Margaret Connolly, sister of Irish President Catherine Connolly, described the naval detention center they were held at as "a horror of a concentration camp" in an interview with Ireland's public radio broadcaster. Connolly went on to accuse Israel of "acting like a Nazi state" and said flotilla activists "got a feeling of what the Jews felt like during the Second World War."
