Canada's transport regulator has asked Air India to investigate an incident of a pilot who was removed from a plane before it was due to take off and found to be under the influence of alcohol, a person familiar with the matter said.
Gábor Lukács, founder of Air Passenger Rights, told Global News that WestJet is not following the law. “The law requires WestJet to rebook passengers on competitor airlines at its own dime in such situations,” he said.
“If the airline is unable to re-book a passenger on its own or partner airlines departing within 48 hours of the original departure time, they have to buy the passenger’s seat ticket on the next available flight of any carrier. And that means including competitors. That’s what the law says, that’s what WestJet has to do. The problem is that WestJet is flouting the law. WestJet treats the law as if it was just friendly recommendations.”
Lukács also said this situation could lend itself to a class action lawsuit. “I think the only question is why WestJet feels that they can get away with it and the reason is because the federal government is not enforcing passengers’ rights,” he added. “What we see here is not so much a failure in the drafting of the regulations as much as a failure of the government to enforce the law as written.”

The irony is…. Out of our two national carriers it might be the better of the two choice wise. Sad to say….
I'm not so sure. I have rarely had issues with Air Canada. People in my social circle who fly WestJet have had lots of issues.

A flight attendant aboard the Air Canada plane that collided with a fire truck on the runway of New York’s LaGuardia airport Sunday night was found alive on the tarmac still strapped into a jump seat.
The woman was later identified by her daughter as Solange Tremblay of Lachute, about 80 kilometres outside Montreal. “It’s a miracle she is even alive,” Sarah Lépine told National Post in a Facebook message. “I haven’t spoken to her since this morning. She was being transferred to a different hospital for surgery on her leg.”
Citing unnamed law enforcement sources, both WNBC and CNN reported that the Belanger was thrown from the wreckage of the CRJ -900 jet after its collision with the Port Authority aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle that had been given clearance to cross a runway to respond to an emergency at another aircraft.
In an interview with Quebec’s TVA Nouvelles, Lépine said her mother’s “seat was ejected more than a hundred meters from the plane” upon impact with the fire truck.
