"The first round of tariffs, which the president initially directly tied to fixing what he condemned as an illegal influx of fentanyl and migrants coming across America's southern and northern borders,..."

Simple rebound. Start demanding Trump do something about all the illegals coming across the border into Canada AND the fucking DECADES of illegal guns and drugs flowing north. Or in earthier terms, clean up the dog shit in your yard before you complain about the state of my yard.
I think that was one of the news stories yesterday. Joly, who people look at, but don’t listen to, was cited as saying so much. Joly said Canadians have received positive feedback from American officials about efforts at the border. She noted the U.S. is a net exporter of guns, migrants and drugs to Canada.

I'm sure Trump will get right on that.

Perhaps you could share this knowledge that Smith (& I’m assuming yourself) know with others because, frankly, I’m tired. Hell, the Newfoundland Premier could’ve been let in on this secret before he resigned today over this bullshit & crazy shifting goalposts.

It’s becoming clear this was never over border security, as that’s irrelevant according to Trumps threats, etc…so is it purely over squeezing Canada further on trade relations and restrictions to further hamstring it, then blame it for being hamstrung…because that’s borderline retarded, so it almost makes sense after the last five weeks?

This sure as shit isn’t to improve unity (your union thing) with the US if it’s attacking all (most/many) of its allies on multiple fronts simultaneously, ‘cuz who wants to cozy up to the unmedicated schizophrenic Jekyll & Hyde nation, economically or otherwise?
Aba daba daba daba daba daba daba
Said the monkey to the chimp

It's clear it was never about the border is it? Then by all means what are the chimps holding back on?

Are you capable of answering a question without just throwing out vague questions? I’m not trying to be a dick. I’m just swimming in so much other stuff at the moment that without an answer I’ll have to come back to this in eight or 10 hours.

Your own post answered the question.

The White House has clarified (???) that North America-wide tariffs are not a done deal, as many news headlines suggested following remarks Monday by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Was I wrong before? Yes or no?

That quote says the chimps are full of shit

It depends on the time of day. Earlier in the day Trump swings one way…& then later the same day he contradicted himself…& the next morning it’s like flipping a coin.

One of the things I see from Trumps make America Great Again program, by insisting that materials needed for a company to build something, he has to pay 25% more for it, then make the end result, in a high labour market, (compared to other countries) then be able to sell this product to Americans. His vision is that a lot of the people will invest in a company to set the business plan in place to get the products to market, generating more work for hometown Americans.
Take the case of tariffs on Aluminum, USA does not produce enough for their needs, so if they need it, and cannot get it at home, then try to make the product at a price that will allow them to sell it at home for a price that USA public will pay?
Having said this is old Donnie doing this to get even because he got caught and is doing the things he is doing to get EVEN and
destroy USA in in world, with the help of the leaders of Russia?

One word, China. But it still won't solve the problem as far as US manufacturing goes. Let's look at autos. Let's say Trump decides that all cars sold in the US without tariffs must be fully built in the US. Okay fine, but the US no longer has the necessary facilities to produce all the parts needed to build a car. In fact, as things are set up right now the same parts or components will cross the border multiple times throughout the entire production process.
So with Trump's tariffs American's will be paying at least 25% more for a car until the US can build cars in their entirety within the US. That's gonna take a few years at least. Basically it's gonna hurt the entire North American auto industry but the US market will really feel it.

But despite some people's opinion of Trump on this matter, including my own at times, I find it hard to believe that Trump is really stupid enough to think that his apparent desire to bring US manufacturing back to the US isn't going to cause the US a lot of long term pain as it will take YEARS to get all that production spooled up. For example, it's estimated that if the US announced tomorrow that it would be manufacturing cell phones in the US again, it would take about 5 years before the first units came off the line.

With the US president’s ever-evolving set of threats and changing timelines coming from White House officials and members of his administration, the situation has left Canadians, as well as business and political leaders, confused.

With March 4 fast approaching, Trump has vowed to forge ahead with his universal tariffs.

However, much like how last-minute negotiations delayed the implementation of these levies at the start of the month, a White House official clarified the Feb. 4 date is also subject to negotiations.

On Feb.10, Trump signed executive orders to impose 25 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminum entering the U.S., without any exception for Canada, one of its largest suppliers.

Trump’s rationale this time was to boost domestic production and bring jobs to the U.S. As he announced his metal tariffs, Trump repeated his often used statement that Canada should become a U.S. state if it hopes to avoid any economic pain.

Trump has warned that countries that hit back with their own tariffs on U.S. imports could face even stiffer levies.

April 2 is the date Trump says the U.S. would implement “reciprocal tariffs,” according to an executive order he signed.

He also threatened to slap tariffs on other imports that month, including automobiles.

As well, Trump ordered a report due on April 1 that looks at the U.S.’s trade deficits, which may, yes, open the door to even more tariffs.

Look on the bright side, Ron. He also said he'd bring down grocery prices on his first day, and he'd end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours.

So, given his following-through record, you might be just fine.

Well, better off than a Federal government employee who just got her vote repaid with a pink slip anyhow. Nope, not a "bureaucrat." A forest ranger, whose job involved marking trees for logging. Useful. Productive. Beneficial to the economy and private enterprise AND to the environment.

And fired.
