My point is that that junk, sorry…chunk of ground is a hot potato, & it’s “ownership” has changed often, and will probably change often again in the future if history is any indicator of potential future events.
Agreed. Rights adhere to those there now. Prior holders have a very short window for laying their claims.

And ability to hold it is the other 1/10.
Well, Iranically, Iran is the voice of Lebanese/Syrian Hezbollah. Not even pretending to distance itself any longer.

Killing Hezbollah commanders will not bring the group to its knees, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, after Israel hit senior figures in the Iran-backed movement during days of devastating air strikes across Lebanon.

"The organisational strength and human resources of Hezbollah is very strong and will not be critically hit by the killing of a senior commander, even if that is clearly a loss," Khamenei said.

OK, thank you Mr Khamenei. Nothing from the government’s of Lebanon or Syria in that story at the below link. Are they both failed states?
In the early 2020s, Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Myanmar, Palestine, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen have all been described as failed states.

Lebanon differs from other Middle East countries where Muslims have become the majority after the civil war.
In May 1991, all of the armed factions that had been operating in Lebanon were dissolved, excluding Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Shia Islamist militia. How’s that work’n out for them?
Hezbollah maintains strong alliances with the Iran-led coalition of militant groupsacross Gaza, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq. These proxies are used by Iran across the Middle East and Europe to foment instability, expand the scope of the Islamic Revolution, and carry out terrorist attacks against Western targets in the regions. Good times! Its special operations unit, the Quds Force, is known to provide arms, training, and financial support to militias and political movements across the Middle East, including Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Yemen. OK then.

Any idea what the above map is showing?

Are they really? How did he say it is under his tutelage? All he did was state the obvious.

Hezbollah is political and running the show. Is Israel attacking the militant arm or the political arm? Israel doesnt have the capacity to fight both.

They arent going anywhere.

Hezbollah ('Party of God') is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary group, led since 1992 by its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah. Hezbollah's paramilitary wing is the Jihad Council, and its political wing is the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc party in the Lebanese Parliament.

Lebanese prime minister believes ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah possible

Mikati welcomed the call for a truce but said the key to its implementation is whether Israel, which has been moving troops closer to Lebanon, is committed to enforcing international resolutions.

Mikati’s caretaker administration includes ministers chosen by Hezbollah, widely seen as the country’s most powerful political force.
Damn we’re old. You up this early to milk the chickens? Wants a cease-fire after lobbing missiles & rockets (or someone in Lebanon is…) at Israel for 11 months…& now that Israel has shifted its focus onto Hezbollah in Lebanon from Hamas in Gaza in the last week or so…

Mikati welcomed the call for a truce. Where has Mikati been for the last 11 months? Mikati could have called for a truce 11 months ago but didn’t….& only calls for one when Iran’s foe swings back?

Mikati is both the Prime Minister and the President of Lebanon…& where has he been for the last 11 months before wanting a cease-fire this week, after Israel shifted their focus north last week? Doesn’t that smell more than a little “off” in this all?

Why wasn’t Mikati wanting a cease-fire October 7th…the day before Hezbollah started firing projectiles into Israel? That would’ve given him some credibility that he really doesn’t seem to have at this point.

Mikati wanted a ceasefire last November and a return to negotiations with Israe on settling the border. A marine border was established but not a land border.

You dont find it odd people who are hellbent on the death of all Jews are negotiating with those they want dead at any and all costs?

Does Bibi intend on a land grab beforehand?

BTW, Israel has roasted more Lebanese civilians in the past week than Russia has in a year.

Is Russia at war with Lebanon (?) or Hezbollah (?) or Iran and it’s proxies?

How many Lebanese civilians (so not involved with Hezbollah, Iran, etc…) has “Israel roasted” to gain that distinction? Do you have a link?

How many Lebanese civilians has Russia roasted (?) and why?

More civilians in a week Ron. More civilians.

Correction : https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-eas...a-top-entire-russia-ukraine-war-toll-/3045920

That quite the task for "precision strikes". Russia just lobs shit at apartments daily. Thank God they arent precision strikes.

Lebanon’s Growing Civilian Death Toll Includes Children and Rescue Workers

Lebanese organizations have begun to identify children, humanitarians and journalists among a growing number of civilians killed in Israel’s intense bombardment.

From girl scouts to first aid responders, cleaners to electrical engineers, the names and faces of the Lebanese civilians killed by Israeli airstrikes this week have begun to emerge, as the nation reels from the deadliest day in its history since the 15-year civil war, which ended in 1990.

Hundreds of people have been killed since Israel began launching airstrikes in Lebanon on Sunday, in what it describes as a campaign targeting the militant group Hezbollah and its weapons stores.

Many Lebanese are still taking stock of those lost on Monday, when Israeli strikes killed 558 people in a single day, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. The toll includes 50 children and 94 women.

The link is to Gaza (not Lebanon), and not the last week, but that’s OK. Everyone is a civilian in Gaza.

I was running with what you had said, with respect to Lebanon (not Ukraine or Gaza). I assumed you meant literally and not…wherever you where going in the mix of things when you were talking about Lebanese civilians.

Here’s an interesting perspective. Iranian proxy Hezbollah is suckering Israel into a ground war in Lebanon ‘cuz in that situation, they have the advantage in a ground war. Hezbollah is the most heavily armed (by Iran) nonstate militia in the world.

Hezbollah would have the hometown advantage if they could sucker Israel into southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah can use the hills & valleys to their advantage where Israeli Armor can’t easily access, & Hezbollah has been digging tunnels and laying traps for 18 years waiting for this moment.
Meanwhile…
Here they (ok, it’s a he, & I just can’t remember the dudes name) discusses the secondary explosions (cooking stoves and propane tanks or whatever) in targets that are in residential buildings or such:
Buddy is not discounting Hezbollah or its Iranian supplied rockets or missiles, or its capabilities. Israel has waited on a negotiated cease-fire through diplomatic channels with Lebanon/Hezbollah for almost a year and now is taking the matter into their own hands.
If Hezbollah goes all in, there will be significant casualties on both sides of that conflict. Exchange of strikes between Israel and Lebanese militant group Hezbollah have been occurring along the Israel–Lebanon border and in Syria and the Israeli-occupiedGolan Heights since 8 October 2023.

On 8 October 2023, Hezbollah started firing guided rockets and artillery shells at Israeli positions in the occupied Shebaa Farms, which it said was in solidarity with Palestinians following the Hamas attack on Israel that took place a day earlier.

In northern Israel, the ongoing conflict has forced approximately 96,000 individuals to leave their homes, while in Lebanon, approximately 500,000 individuals have been displaced, with Hezbollah saying it would not stop attacks against Israel until it stops its attacks and military operations in Gaza, putting the Lebanese civilian presence to Hezbollah in perspective.

Lebanon pager explosions—which targeted Hezbollah and were widely attributed to Israel (this is suppose to be an an act of war to Hezbollah, but nothing prior was?)—and followed by daily Israeli airstrikes that included assassination of senior Hezbollah commanders.

Israel stated that its attacks would continue until Israeli citizens in near the northern border could return home safely. The deadliest and most widespread casualties in Lebanon resulted from Israeli airstrikes on 23 September that killed at least 558 deaths and more than 1,835 injuries including children, women and paramedics.
In fairness, you could make the case (and many have done so) that Israel is nothing but a foothold in the Middle East for the Western Powers, primarily the US, Britain, and their wannabes in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Western Europe.

Those Western Powers don't have a spotless human rights record either.
The history of calls for the destruction of Israel is rooted in the prelude to its establishment. Leaders such as Azzam Pasha of the Arab League warned of a "war of extermination" in the event that a Jewish state was established.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. Israel doesnt have the capacity to take on Hezbollah alone. They cant even reign in Hamas after 11 months. Lebanon isnt fenced in behind a 30 foot wall and its 20+ Gazas with 10X the arms.

Is this what the average Shlomo in Israel wants from Adolf Netanyahu or do they want a cease-fire negotiated and him in prison?

You truly believe Iran is baiting Israel to attack Hezbollah? Netanyahu must be a complete and total moron to walk into a trap that could end Israel’s existence wouldnt you say? Who planted that idea in your head Iran is baiting Israel? What moves has Iran made since the one volley of missiles that they generously gave 3 days warning for Israel to prepare for?

Are you sure Bibi isnt doing this to drag the US in to fight his battles just so he can stay out of prison? Is Netanyahu using the US election as a means to blackmail both sides after failing miserably to "eliminate Hamas". If either Harris or Trump says theyre putting their foot down theyre fucked come November.

In the 11 months since Hezbollah escalated its attacks on Israel — a show of support for Hamas in Gaza — the group has suffered the heaviest losses of its four-decade history. Its leadership has been decimated, its munitions destroyed, and its communications compromised by attacks last week that turned pagers and radios into bombs.
But while Iran has offered rhetorical support, it has not joined the fight.

Hezbollah “is completely able to defend itself and to defend Lebanon and Lebanese people,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said this week at the United Nations.

Heading into the U.N. General Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused Israel of “atrocities,” “colonialism,” “desperate barbarism” and “crimes against humanity” in Gaza. But he also adopted a moderate tone, declaring a “new era” in which Iran would play a “constructive role” in world affairs.

Iran’s focus on engagement and its hesitance to intervene on the ground demonstrate the limited military options available to reestablish deterrence with Israel after a year of heightened hostilities in the region, analysts and diplomats say.

There’s much more going on that hits the media I’m sure. Just a spectator following things from the other side of the planet.
"Israel has been tolerating this intolerable situation for nearly a year. Well, I've come here today to say enough is enough," he said.

Several delegations walked out as Netanyahu approached the lectern while supporters in the gallery cheered.

In southern Lebanon, Israel continued to strike Hezbollah targets while diplomats at the U.N. voiced fears the attacks could flare into a wider war that draws in Israel's arch-foe, Iran.

In his speech, Netanyahu sought to pin blame for the conflict on Iran, whose delegation was absent for the speech. He said Israel was defending itself against Tehran on seven fronts, including against Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthis in Yemen.

(On the conflict in Gaza, where U.S.-led ceasefire talks have stalled, Netanyahu said the war can end if Hamas militants who carried out an Oct. 7 attack in Israel surrender, lay down their weapons and return hostages seized in the attack)
