A Pennsylvania man accused of beheading his father and displaying the decapitated head in a gruesome video online said he felt “betrayed” by his dad.
Justin Mohn, 32, of Levittown, about 40 kilometres northeast of Philadelphia, made a court appearance Tuesday for the slaying of Michael Mohn on Jan. 30. He is facing murder, terrorism, theft and other charges.
Investigators said Mohn was arrested soon after a nearly 15-minute video titled, “Mohn’s Militia – Call to Arms for American Patriots,” was posted to YouTube. In the video, Mohn is alleged to have displayed the decapitated head twice while ranting for citizens to rise up and overthrow the U.S. government and kill federal agents and judges.
Prosecutors allege Mohn killed his defenceless father, a federal employee, by shooting him while he was using the bathroom.
Following the court hearing, Mohn was led out in handcuffs while wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. He spoke about why he allegedly killed his father.
“I and a lot of other people around America believe that the federal government has betrayed America, they are destroying the country, and we have to do something to take our country back,” Mohn told NBC affiliate WCAU.
After being pressed by the reporter about how he was going to achieve that goal, Mohn replied that he felt “betrayed.”
“He was a federal employee and betrayed me,” Mohn said. “I was trying to perform a citizen’s arrest. He resisted that citizen’s arrest. It’s lawful to use deadly force in that event.”
On Tuesday, prosecutors submitted evidence Mohn sent from prison, including several letters to the governor and the head of the National Guard base in Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania, where he was arrested.
Mohn is also accused of compiling a “to-do list” that included buying a gun that prosecutors believe was used to kill his dad.
“Essentially what this case is, Mr. Mohn, based on his beliefs, is making a call to arms to achieve the aims he believes in,” prosecutor Edward Louka said in court.
“He did that through violence. The violence was the murder of his father, who, it’s obviously not a coincidence, was a federal employee. He, essentially, needed that murder to get his message across.”
Mohn’s lawyer tried to dismiss the terrorism charges, arguing the accused had no followers and the only victim was his father.
“It’s a tragic case,” Steven Jones said outside the courtroom after one terrorism charge was dropped. “The loss of life is always tragic. I don’t think there are any winners here.”
In August, Mohn was declared competent to stand trial. His next court date is in October for a formal arraignment.

U.S. President Joe Biden overruled his staff on Monday during an event at the White House, inviting children up on a stage with him.
He was given on-stage directions for a photo-op honouring women’s soccer team Gotham FC, but the president said he decided to ignore those instructions and would “do what he wants.”
After shaking hands with elementary and middle school students, Biden surprisingly called out his staffers, much to the delight of the crowd.
“You know, I thought when I got to be president, I’d get to do things that I want to do. But my staff tells me what I can’t do,” Biden said after walking into the event holding hands with star player Ali Krieger, the New York Post reported.
“But I’m going to do it anyway,” he said, before defying his aides’ orders and calling for the team and children with them to join him on stage.
“All the young women, young kids out there — that are out there, come on up and do this with me,” he said.
“Stand behind me, would you. Just come on.”
A moment later, Biden added, “And the guys.”
Biden was surrounded by the children and players as they stood around the soon-to-be-former president while he held up a customized jersey with the championship team.
According to the Post, some of the president’s remarks to the kids were inaudible, but he was heard on the microphone asking some for their names.

Sleepy Joe resurfaced in Africa this week.
U.S. President Joe Biden appeared to rest his eyes during a summit with African leaders in Angola in the moment that was caught on camera.
The outgoing president, who was seated in the middle of a table with officials from African countries, can be seen closing his eyes and resting his head while Tanzania’s Vice President Philip Mpango spoke.
From the footage, it appeared Biden’s eyes were closed for more than a minute.
The rest of the time, the 82-year-old appeared alert and gave remarks and took notes before and after the brief apparent nap, which was called out by many on social media.
Jake Schneider, the rapid response director for Trump’s campaign, joked, “Biden literally falls asleep during his own meeting in Africa. Who’s running the country?”
Radio host Ross Kaminsky, along with many others, called it “embarrassing” and he added, “It’s incredible that our enemies haven’t challenged us more while we’re basically without a president.”
Another user asked, “Why is this man allowed in public?”
Biden’s visit to Angola marked the first time the President has stepped foot on African soil during his presidency.
The discussion centred on African officials and U.S. business leaders who are investing in the Lobito Trans-Africa Corridor, and Biden noted that he likes “trains a lot,” recalling his old commute between Wilmington, N.C. and Washington, D.C.
“Mr. President, I’m coming back to ride on the train all the way from end to end,” he told Angolan President João Lourenço.
“I like trains a lot. So I’m coming back,” Biden said. “You’re stuck with me.”
Biden said the U.S. has invested $4 billion along the 1,300-kilometre Lobito Corridor, which consists of train lines in Zambia, Congo and Angola, the Associated Press reported.
“Africa has been left behind for much too long. But not anymore. Africa is the future,” Biden declared, calling the line a “game changer.”
By the end of the decade, the rail line could link southern Africa’s west and east coasts.
Biden wants to use the project as part of his push to counter China’s growing influence in Africa, as Beijing has heavily invested in mining and processing African minerals, and has used its Belt and Road Initiative infrastructure strategy to promote its economic and political influence, according to the AP.
Before leaving the continent, Biden told African leaders, “I want to come back and ride the whole thing.”

On Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden commuted the serial killer’s death sentence to life in prison without parole. He gave this early Christmas present to 37 of 40 killers on federal death row in Terre Haute, Ind.

On Mother’s Day 2005, he raped and stabbed to death Krystal Tobias, 9, and Laura Hobbs, 8, in a park in Zion, Ill.. Father Jerry Hobbs found the two girls’ bodies and was later charged with the crime.
The heartbroken dad was in prison for five years while awaiting trial until he was finally cleared. Only DNA cleared Jerry Hobbs and pointed the finger squarely at former U.S. Marine Avila-Torrez and he pleaded guilty.

Avila-Torrez left his victim to die in the snow.
Also receiving a Christmas miracle was Louisiana’s Thomas Sanders. In 2010, he kidnapped and then shot Lexis Roberts, 12, four times before cutting her throat. Days earlier the terrified child watched Sanders murder her mother on a family trip to the Grand Canyon.
Only three killers were snubbed by the outgoing commander-in-chief’s largesse:
They are: Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who with his brother killed three people in 2013; Robert Bowers, who murdered 11 at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, and Dylann Roof, who killed nine Black churchgoers in Charleston in 2015.

Also landing on Biden’s “nice” list were dope kingpins Kaboni Savage (fitting) of Philadelphia and Richmond, Va. overlord James Roane Jr.
Savage landed on death row for committing or giving the green light for the executions of 12 people — including four children. Roane Jr. participated in the murders of 11 people.
“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss,” Biden said in a statement, adding he believes it’s time for the federal death penalty to be kicked to the curb.

Sleepy Joe has been on a pardon frenzy in the dying days of his administration. In addition to letting wayward son Hunter skate, Biden also commuted the sentences of almost 1,500 criminals temporarily sprung from prison during the pandemic.
Among them? Black Widow Josephine Gray murdered two husbands and a lover for boffo insurance payouts and crooked comptroller Rita Crundwell who stole a whopping $54 million from the small town of Dixon, Ill.
At least Biden paid lip service to the victims and denounced the killers’ heinous crimes.
In Canada, those same victims would be left in a vacuum with the Supreme Court’s august guardians reminding smugly us of root causes, racism, cruel and unusual punishment and the rights of killers.

Only three killers were snubbed by the outgoing commander-in-chief’s largesse:
They are: Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who with his brother killed three people in 2013; Robert Bowers, who murdered 11 at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, and Dylann Roof, who killed nine Black churchgoers in Charleston in 2015.

Also landing on Biden’s “nice” list were dope kingpins Kaboni Savage (fitting) of Philadelphia and Richmond, Va. overlord James Roane Jr.
Savage landed on death row for committing or giving the green light for the executions of 12 people — including four children. Roane Jr. participated in the murders of 11 people.
“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss,” Biden said in a statement, adding he believes it’s time for the federal death penalty to be kicked to the curb.

Sleepy Joe has been on a pardon frenzy in the dying days of his administration. In addition to letting wayward son Hunter skate, Biden also commuted the sentences of almost 1,500 criminals temporarily sprung from prison during the pandemic.
Among them? Black Widow Josephine Gray murdered two husbands and a lover for boffo insurance payouts and crooked comptroller Rita Crundwell who stole a whopping $54 million from the small town of Dixon, Ill.
At least Biden paid lip service to the victims and denounced the killers’ heinous crimes.
In Canada, those same victims would be left in a vacuum with the Supreme Court’s august guardians reminding smugly us of root causes, racism, cruel and unusual punishment and the rights of killers.
