Western media accused of working with journalists embedded with Hamas during attack
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the photojournalists of being 'accomplices in crimes against humanity'

Journalists working with Western media were allegedly embedded with Hamas forces as the militants staged a deadly terrorist attack in Israel last month.

On Wednesday, media watchdog Honest Reporting published a bombshell investigation claiming the rampage on Oct. 7 that killed 1,400 Israeli citizens – mostly civilians – was documented by several photojournalists who had ties to the Associated Press and Reuters news agencies, as well as the New York Times and CNN.

The outlet alleges the photographers knew the attack was coming and participated in it.

The photos, obtained by the wire services, show Hamas fighters storming an Israeli kibbutz and abducting civilians back to Gaza.

In one image, the body of an Israeli soldier was partially seen in the back of a pickup truck with armed Hamas militants.

A burning Israeli tank was also photographed on the Israeli side of the border.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the photojournalists following the report, calling them “accomplices in crimes against humanity” and pointing out “their actions were contrary to professional ethics.”

Dr. Shlomo Karhi, Israel’s Minister of Communications, sent a blistering letter to the news organizations demanding a thorough response to the accusations.

“Terrorists disguised as journalists? I demanded immediate clarifications from the international media bodies published in the investigation,” he shared on social media site X.

According to a report on Ynet News, an English news site based in Israel, AP had decided to cut ties with one journalist, who was photographed next to an Israeli tank.

“We are no longer working with Hassan Eslaiah, who had been an occasional freelancer for AP and other international news organizations in Gaza,” their statement said.

Ynet News also reported CNN had suspended its ties with Eslaiah.

“We are aware of the article and photo concerning Hassan Eslaiah, a freelance photojournalist who has worked with a number of international and Israeli outlets. While we have not at this time found reason to doubt the journalistic accuracy of the work he has done for us, we have decided to suspend all ties with him.”

However, the New York Times issued a statement standing by its decision to work with freelancer Yousef Masoud, who was employed by AP on Oct. 7 and denied having prior knowledge of the attack.

“Though Yousef was not working for The Times on the day of the attack, he has since done important work for us. There is no evidence for Honest Reporting’s insinuations. Our review of his work shows that he was doing what photojournalists always do during major news events, documenting the tragedy as it unfolded.”

Meanwhile, Reuters has denied having prior knowledge of the attack or that journalists were embedded with Hamas on Oct. 7.

“Reuters acquired photographs from two Gaza-based freelance photographers who were at the border on the morning of Oct. 7, with whom it did not have a prior relationship,” the agency said in a statement. “The photographs published by Reuters were taken two hours after Hamas fired rockets across southern Israel and more than 45 minutes after Israel said gunmen had crossed the border.”

“Reuters staff journalists were not on the ground at the locations referred to in the Honest Reporting article,” Reuters added.

I’m just sitting down and eating some supper and listening to the radio, and the numbers are weird out of Gaza Hamas Israel etc…. As they say that there are 11,078 deaths in Gaza, and then they break that down further into some categories with exact figures…& then they say that there are about 240-ish hostages from Oct 7th? If they can’t figure out how many hostages they have….How do they have these exact figures for Palestinians killed in bombings by Israel who’s trying to get at Hamas?

The Al Rantisi and Shifa hospitals have been surrounded by the IDF. The northern and southern groups of Israeli forces have almost linked up.

Was listening to a report from one of the hospitals. (CBC As it Happens, specifically) During the interview, bombings were going on.

But sure, hospitals are legitimate targets always.

In Gaza as a whole, the Hamas-run health ministry says 11,078 people have been killed since the start of the war and more than 27,000 others have been injured….yet On Friday evening, Israel revised down the number of people killed during the attack to about 1,200, from the earlier figure of 1,400.

Anyway, hospitals. Reports that Israeli forces in Gaza were surrounding several hospitals in Gaza City began to emerge early on Friday morning.

One person inside the Al-Quds hospital told the BBC that they could hear "continuous clashes and explosions", while eyewitnesses near the Al-Rantisi Paediatric Hospital said that Israeli troops were using megaphones to order anyone who was not medical staff or patients to leave the premises.

In one video posted on social media and verified by the BBC, a large group of civilians - many of them carrying white flags - can be seen trying to leave the courtyard of another hospital, Al-Nasr, when gunshots ring out, sending panicked people running for cover.

Videos posted on social media appeared to show the aftermath of a missile or mortar striking the courtyard at Al-Shifa, the city's largest hospital, while others appeared to show dead children and scenes of panic outside the outpatients' clinic.

The fighting around Al-Quds hospital also intensified as night fell. The BBC understands an Israeli navy ship was involved as well as tanks, which have surrounded the hospital…but why hospitals?
A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the IDF "does not fire on hospitals" but that "we'll do what we need to" if Hamas fired from hospital grounds.
When asked what the plan was to deal with patients in the hospitals who could not walk, or those who were on drips and with broken bones, he said: "Our plan is - and we're taking an operational risk here - we're saying to Hamas to move people south."

Hamas has previously denied claims that it places command posts under Gaza hospitals to use them as shields. Israel has always maintained that Hamas fighters hide in tunnels under hospitals, making the structures legitimate targets.
Targeting civilians is against the laws of war, but Israel maintains that Hamas uses civilians as shields. International organizations have decried the shellings in retaliation for Hamas' Oct. 7 terror attack, which killed more than 1,400 in Israel. The death toll continues to mount in Gaza with 11,078 dead as of Friday, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.
“During the past few hours, the Israeli military has been surrounding three hospitals in Gaza City and the Indonesian Hospital in the north,” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reported from Khan Younis.
1699667333667.jpeg
“Using tanks and armoured vehicles, they have closed a roughly 100-metre (about 330-foot) perimeter around these hospitals, still sheltering thousands of wounded and displaced people. People have sent appeals from inside Al-Rantisi Hospital and Nasser Hospital, asking to be allowed to flee,” he said, adding that while Israel had ordered the evacuation of the facilities, even those who could flee were afraid of doing so without the guarantee of a safe passage.
The Israeli military has surrounded Gaza's biggest hospital where it claims Hamas is hiding its underground headquarters, and is closing in around it. IDF troops are said to be about 270 yards away from the Al-Shifa hospital, where an estimated 60,000 people have taken refuge, many in a makeshift camp.

Overnight, Hamas-run local authorities accused the IDF of shelling areas around hospitals in the north of the coastal strip, including Al-Shifa, as well as the Rantisi children's hospital and the Indonesian hospital.

Indonesia's foreign ministry has also reported explosions from around the Indonesian hospital while another, Al Quds Hospital, is reported to be surrounded by tanks. A person inside the hospital told the BBC of hearing 'clashes and explosions'.

The IDF has denied that it had targeted the Indonesian hospital, saying: 'The IDF did not target the hospital. The IDF does not target civilians and operates in accordance with international law.'

Because they aren't exact figures.

They're guesses.

Likely UNDER guessed, because you can't dig through rubble to get to bodies when you're being bombed.

Most of the reports on numbers I've seen ALWAYS state that they are likely "guesses" and "under-counted" and figures are "likely higher". Of course Israeli wounded and dead are easier to count for some reason and be more reliable.

The IDF has denied that it had targeted the Indonesian hospital, saying: 'The IDF did not target the hospital. The IDF does not target civilians and operates in accordance with international law.'

Except there is proof out there that it doesn't. Did it target the hospital? Dunno. But it DOES target civilians and does NOT operate in accordance with international law.

But it's Israel saying this, so of course they could NEVER lie, ever, ever.

There’s some very good questions in here. What were these journalists doing October 7th at 6am on a Saturday morning staking out the Gaza/Israel border fence? That is a heck of a coincidence if it was a coincidence…?

Maybe Hamas should respect the rest of the Palestinians and keep their bunkers and weapons away from hospitals and mosques?

Absolutely agreed.

But you're expecting Hamas to act like rational human beings with empathy and consideration at least for their own.

Hard to be rational to the insane.

Terrifying images are currently emerging from Gaza.
People are attempting to move south & out of the northern zone.
But #Hamas fired back at them, putting an end to their attempt.

And you're shocked by this?

Hamas knows if people move south, if they leave Gaza, there goes their leverage.

They also know if people leave, there goes Gaza as a place for Palestinians. Israel would never give it back if they take all of it. They'll find an excuse not to.

But you can't say Hamas doesn't deserve the backlash; it very well does.

The civilians, not so much.
