They say with proper training and background checks, we'll all be safe.

Kinda makes a body wonder why trained, professional soldiers, background-checked up the ying-yang, aren't allowed to walk around the base with guns.

Better than your typical conservative "Let em die!" attitude.
Awww, are you back to your faux concern about the kiddies again? Hmm let's see, according to my calculations around 154 kids 15 and under have been killed by idiots in cars since the Uvalde shooting. Were you related to one of the shooting victims or something? Because you're still droning on and on about something that happened two weeks ago while seeming rather unperturbed in the least about the 154 child deaths caused by texting and driving just since then.
Apparently "let 'em die" isn't just a "conservative" trait.

It's interesting that you bang on constantly about kids killed by texting and driving, and don't give a damn about kids gunned down in school.

Kinda' like how the anti-gun crowd howls like banshees for weeks every time kids are shot up but have nothing to say about the daily carnage meted out on kids (and everyone else) by idiots in cars, and govts who treat driving as a right.

Fuck your whataboutism you shit. You want to talk car deaths, make a thread about it and see my 'opinion' on it then.

Hey, you idiots can do whatever you like. Our governments treat driving as a privilege, license it, and make it quite difficult and expensive, buy any 18-year-old who don't have a criminal record or a mental-health diagnosis has an inalienable ride to military-grade heat and all the ammo he needs to feel like he's got a dick.

Difference is I have expressed my concern and made some concrete proposals for how to reduce texting-and-driving deaths, and you've eloquently expressed your utter indifference to kids torn apart by bullets in their fourth-grade class while the Thin Yellow Line cowers in the hallway.

Pretty silly to compare kids getting shot in school to getting killed in a car accident. The only comparison I can make with these 2 things is that the privilege to drive a car comes with testing and licencing. I think owning a gun should be just as strict or more so.
I understand a lot of Americans feel they have the right to own guns. Just being able to go out and buy one like it was a candy bar just isn't right.

Well H.L. is it the free for all you think it is?

When it comes to Canada, would you qualify for an RPAL (Restricted Possession and Aquisition Licence, to buy a pistol or a "cosmetically enhanced" rifle? How many Canadians qualify for a PAL (hunting rifles with identical specs as "comestically enhanced" restricted rifles) let alone an RPAL?

Is Canada leaps and bounds ahead of the US?

How about Mexico?

How does Canadian gun crime compare to Mexico where very very few people are allowed to own guns?

In Canada it is. Here's another fun fact. Some dude just got 14 years for killing 4 people in a MVA where he was clearly at fault. He'll be eligible for parole in 5 years. Whether or not he gets out in 5 or later he'll still be able to get re-licenced to drive at some point after his release.

Now, compare that to a legal gun owner who gets careless and cleans his firearm before making sure it's completely clear. The firearm goes off but fortunately nobody gets killed or wounded. Guess what? It don't matter. They will be prohibited from ever legally owning a firearm again. Period. It gets even more fucked. In Canada more kids are killed every year by people texting and driving than the number of people from all age groups who are victims of homicide. Roughly half of those homicides involve a firearm. Last year an average of 1 person a day was shot to death. Last year an average of 3.5 kids 15 and under per day were killed by people texting and driving.
Seems to me that Canada needs licencing and ownerships laws for cars that are at least as strict as they are for gun ownership, or more so. In the US around 30,000 people a year are murdered, not all them with a firearm. Meanwhile 40,000 American are killed on US roads and highways every year. And don't kid yourself, only a handful are the result of a genuine 'no-fault" situation; weather, mechanical failure etc. The VAST majority of deaths on the road in both countries are caused by impaired driving, distracted driving, stunt driving or any other irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel. Kind'a funny how anti-gun altruists want you to ignore those huge pieces of reality while crying about how dangerous guns are. And why? Because they like their cars. THEY shouldn't have to be "punished"/restricted because of the actions of others.

I understand a lot of Americans feel they have the right to own guns. Just being able to go out and buy one like it was a candy bar just isn't right.
Yep. But that "shall not be infringed" part really does cover both the letter and the spirit of the law. Not saying I agree with it, but it's kinda' hard to state you stand for freedom and democracy when you're a govt that wants to abrogate or otherwise strictly limit "enshrined" rights". Although let's face it, when it comes to the ideals of freedom and democracy the US does a pretty piss poor job of practicing what it preaches so...

Nah, just got sick and tired of repeating myself over and over for years about the lax attitude towards firearms in the US. Also got sick and tired of the "Won't somebody think of the children" crowd going off every time a handful of kids gets shot, but aren't fazed in the least about the average of 77 kids every week who are killed by texting drivers. That's on top of the all the other kids who are killed by other means of distracted driving, as well as impaired driving, street racing and any other irresponsible behaviour behind the wheel. And golly gee whiz, lookit all the fucking laws there are against that shit. Those are working well, huh?

Yep, it's gotta be the vehicle. Definitely the vehicle. We need much stricter rules for vehicle ownership and driving and ban certain vehicles we don't think the average person should be allowed to own/drive because they're "dangerous". And let's face it, more and more we're seeing people intentionally use vehicles as weapons. Shoot up a Christmas parade and it's OMG we gotta do something about guns. Run down a bunch of people at a Christmas parade with a pick-up truck and it's like meh, what else you got? Intentionally running people down just doesn't stoke my outrage enough, unless of course the victims are Black, or muslim, then I'm righteously outraged man.

Believing that people are motivated purely by self-interest and being somewhat distrustful of human sincerity or integrity does not equal indifference. Just thought you should know that.

OK, ignore the fact that there are many uses for a vehicle besides killing, and absolutely no uses for a gun besides killing.

And pat yourself on the back for your "honesty."

Transportation and in some cases, housing. HEAR YE, HEAR YE. The definition of many has been re-defined to mean 'two'.
, and absolutely no uses for a gun besides killing.
So why do you have any at all, Sports Fan?
And pat yourself on the back for your "honesty."
And pat yourself on the back for thinking you were being clever.
