Considering that the word doesn't exist in the legislation. It simply says that to teach sex and trans issues should be done AFTER grade 3. That's it. People are making a lot out of nothing - guess they don't have anything else to do or complain about.

Totally missed the point, but not unexpected.

The point is that certain things need to be "age appropriate" which is what the legislation is all about. How can you not see this? Incredible!!

...

Again, you missed the point.

I agree, there DOES need to be age appropriate lessons about things, including gender and sex.

The whole "don't say Gay" on the other hand... THAT is what you're missing the point on.

FFS.

Because there is NOTHING in the legislation that even refers to "gay" - that's what YOU'RE missing.

"Don't Say Gay" is what the bill is referred to as by people.

It's CALLED that because of what the bill says.

Which is that you cannot discuss or teach about sexuality and gender, period, in a classroom.

Now, I find section 1, paragraph 8, section C1 to be highly problematic.

But the focus is same section but part 1.8.C3 which says:

"Classroom instruction by school personnel or third
parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur
in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age
appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in
accordance with state standards."

The concern here is that if a teacher is gay, and a student asks questions in a grade lower than 4, the teacher can't say ANYTHING because what, exactly, is 'age appropriate'? Considering the way that such education is done in Florida (as in, it's not) the bill is DANGEROUSLY broad.

"Sex education is not currently mandated in Florida. Schools that do teach sex education must emphasize abstinence as the expected social standard. Since Florida schools are not required to provide sex education to students, school districts are left to decide what type of sex education–if any at all–they provide to youth." - https://siecus.org/state_profile/florida-state-profile/

So you tell me how THAT is not a problem, either?

This discusses the Bill and raises my concern over the first change to it, the 1.8.C1 part.

Bills are given 'tag names' all the time. This bill being called the "Don't Say Gay" bill is pretty much spot on, because it does NOT allow for teachers or any 'third party' instructors to mention gender or sexual orientation - INCLUDING saying Gay - to kids regardless of reasons.

Does that explain WHY now it's called the Don't Say Gay bill and why the fact that the parody song about it went over your head?

D-Cup, a vice-principal in an elementary school, acting as a substitute teacher that day, read the children's book I Need A New Butt to a second-grade class.

He was fired.

I don't see where it says straights can speak of things the soup can't.

Only turd tapping, rump riders are opposed to this bill.. they want to groom more kids and are offended that parents don’t want their children groomed 😉

Ah, old anti-gay tropes... so nice to see they survive.

Or is it wishful thinking on your part that more kids are 'groomed'...

(hey, if you can insinuate/accuse people of stupid shit, expect it in return ;) )
