Well, maybe you don't know us as well as you think. More'n half the Natives (which I define as "on the rolls of a recognized tribe") live on reserves (reservations) and tend to be the poorest, sickest, youngest-dying, highest-teen pregnancy, highest-crime, highest-drug use, highest-suicide, least-educated group in the country.
Many natives out here on the left coast are totally integrated and successful within today’s society . Seems to me whenever I go to Alberta I see many successful appearing natives . Your not one of those who thinks all natives are chugs are you ?
I had a career that allowed me to see most of the country, bottom to top and West to East (and not in large cities)and while what you say is true to an extent it is a small exception rather than the rule.
Yes, there are some Vancouver area and in Eastern BC as well as a couple in Alberta that have become entrepreneurs and done well, it is very far from many. And often, those that do have additional incomes it is from government negotiated deals with resource companies (although that never stopped them from accepting the government dole)
And no, I do not think all indigenous "chug".
