Trudeau calls trucker protest an 'insult to truth'

Nothing frightfully complicated at all but your saying "We must retake our country from the established political class and return power to the electorate." is possibly the dumbest thing you ever said. LOL
What exactly does the electorate do but elect politicians to speak for them, hence making and establishing the "political class"??? LOL
The internet offers the possibility of direct democracy on a scale larger than a small town for the first time in history (Several small towns in New England have it, and always have).

I wonder if any of our posters here would go for it.

Question: Does anybody actually give two squirts of piss about the truckers' grievances (whatever those may be), or is this just a proxy for loving/hating True Dope?
Lots of us do. It is about the continued erosion of our rights and the dictatorial attitude of governments. And their proliferate spending habits. Not just the federal government, but all levels of government.
Ron can give you a much better perspective on the long haul trucking than I can since I only deal with log and aggregate hauling.
We have some mutual problems, such as tire cops with no mechanical or driving experience. In BC to work at the scales, which includes safety inspections one must have previous police or military police experience. No truck experience is required. Tire cops are free to make their own rules, and fine accordingly. One must visit a judge to get tickets overturned.
Here is the main difference.
Local haul(160km radius) pretrip inspection only. Hours are unlimited and not recorded.
Long haul pretrip and log book, 13 hr day max. Can't remember right now how many days without mandatory rest break.

You are either incredibly naive or a troll. Or both. Politicians may speak for the party faithful, or as is more common for the party. Our dipper MP brings the party line to the riding, not taking our wishes to Parliament. NOte we do not have Recall legislation in Canada and the BC one doesn't seem to work. Nor are politicians and senior bureaucraps held financially responsible for their misdeeds. Payette comes to mind.

I kind of like what I see in State and municipal governments use of referendum on tax issues . I imagine it hand cuffs government most of the time . Can’t say much other then it being held up as a reason against referendum when the topic is brought up around here .

I think it's a great idea, given that most humans over 20 or so can only learn through pain.

Naive?
You elect politicians to speak for you.... your representative in Parliament or legislature or council etc.
You are the one making the "political class". The "dipper MP" is is the one you chose to represent you.
You keep bringing beaurocraps into this when they are nothing more than subservient workers, just like Police or Military...they do what they are told by the people you elected.
Pretty simple, not naive at all but very realistic.

L don't think marks is the right analogy, since a mark enters the game on their own free will. Not paying taxes gets you fines and sometimes jail time. That makes serf a better term.

As I said, I'd love to take, say, the Dakotas and adjacent parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan and set up the tax-free haven you fantasize about.

If you were dumb enough to go in the first place, you'd be begging to be let out pretty damn quick.

A resource rich area like that should not need personal income tax to provide for the citizens.
Currently we do not get good value for the taxes we pay. Even local governments are topheavy with excessive management pay and perks. Plus their pensions.

Yes, we're all well aware you think government employment should be punishment for crimes for which the accused shall have been duly convicted. You certainly never shut up about it.
