Even though Britain decimalised its currency in 1971, I'm just about old enough (40 in July) to remember the shilling coin, which was in circulation from around 1550 until 31st December 1990 (when the shilling was completely abolished leaving us with just pounds and pence). From 1971 until 31st December 1990, a shilling was equal to 5 pence. The slang name for a shilling was "bob", so if you bought something for two shillings you said "It cost me two bob." I vaguely remember going into the Food 'N Tipple shop (where my mum worked) when we lived in Bury as a young boy with my pal and vaguely remember seeing a shilling coin in my hand.
