I would rather see a $50 fine for a first offense and 7 days in jail for the second. $2000 right off the bat will just tie up the appeals courts!

Or the possibility of getting a $2,000 fine will deter people from having the gatherings at all. Some may think twice and not risk it while most would think 50 bucks? No big deal, and carry on.

You make a good point. It's sort of a losing battle. Do people want to get this thing over with as quickly as possible or do they just want to thumb their noses at the authorities who know more about the matter than they do? Is the bulk of our society made up of a bunch of 12 years olds? Just the fact that there appears to be real chance of Trump getting re elected makes one wonder!

Huh? If it wasn't for a few smart people like Bonnie Henry and Theresa Tams, deaths may well number in the millions. How many succumbed to the Spanish Flu?

P.S. "The 1918 H1N1 flu pandemic, sometimes referred to as the “Spanish flu,” killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide, including an estimated 675,000 people in the United States. An unusual characteristic of this virus was the high death rate it caused among healthy adults 15 to 34 years of age."

Should we be learning something from this? A guy I worked with many years ago lost his mother to the Spanish Flu at age 28.

But this isn’t the Spanish flu , this is the China flu , and it is not killing people in the same numbers . I suspect that if we did not lock down our country , kill our economy and hide like chicken little this flu would be infecting and killing similar numbers . Two hundred in B.C. In over 6 months . That does not even move the needle as far as normal deaths go in the time frame .

You obviously haven't read up on the Spanish Flu, the first wave (1918) was very mild, it was the second wave in 1919 that did most of the killing. Don't think for one minute the same thing couldn't recur now. You heard about the 19 year old in Quebec who succumbed this week. How do you know THAT isn't the start of something? As much as you think you know I'll take the word of the professionals.

just as well. There are some that simply don't get it ........after all this time. The y would rather take risks or spend time "debating" the pro and cons of mask weeing.........while people continue to get sick .....These resisters should take a trip to the morgue and get some real time information that is science and medical oriented. This is snot a game.
When you get COVID19 which you will without question, will you blame yourself for getting it or blame someone for giving it to you?

Stop yourself for a momemt and ask, "WTF was I thinking? One death in 37 million ISN'T really the start of something is it?"

Like when you mock masks as "face diapers?"
