I , on the other hand will do so. If the app is designed as described .......it would be very helpful in dealing with the virus. The gov't already knows a lot about me anyhow.......and I have nothing to hide. I realize that for some it i s the principle of the thing.

How will you know the app is designed as described? Are you going to decompile it?

The privacy fears are not unfounded which is why I am not trying to flame anyone for not wanting it.

Hopefully in time it will prove itself to the skeptics.

I know if one of my family is in contact with someone who tests positive I would like to know about it asap.

Public health already does this. I can't justify the sacrifice in privacy or the fears of that against the alleged benefit.

I understand the problems with the whole issue but no, public health does not have access to this sort of thing. It would be a godsend.

The do contact tracing. A lot of the re-opening protocols require lists of contacts. If you go to a restaurant, the host must get contact info for at least one ,member of the party. Same with churches. In theory an app would be easier if everybody had an app. There are people who don't even have cell phones.

Yeah, a lot of complicated bullshit happening these days that we old codgers don't have a clue about. Back in the day we got sick and survived or we died...………..plain and simple!

Trudeau announces launch of covid tracking app. The idea is to inform app users when they have been around someone who has tested positive.
It's a great idea and industry should be using this tech.everyone who works at a certain place should be in a local network tracking them all.
NOT going to happen.

Lots of times I don't even want my employer to know where I am. I am most certainly not going to let the government track me on my phone. If it is made mandatory I will no longer have a cell phone.

It is NOT designed to track locations. It is only designed to signal you IF you have come in contact with someone with the virus. It is limited in its functionality. It sends you a message that you have been exposed and probably offer options as re action to take. That is it.

Now , if you have an inherent distrust of technology, the government..........then that is another story.

There is absolutely no way I am downloading this on to my phone. The government will not be tracking me (on my data and battery).

Until the government builds us cell towers - they are fresh out of luck trying to track any of us who might have cell phones and would sign onto the app. I have a feeling that many of my neighbors share your sentiments, IRBS and would not download the app.

You sniffing glue again? It is a tracker. That means government employees can track where you are and to a certain extent who you are with.

not sniffing anything. Just interested in techniques / equipment/ technology that will help resolve this troublesome health issue.

If it does not have your location data, how does it know you have been in contact with someone? The only way this would be useful is if it WAS storing your location data in real time. It would then compare your locations with the covid carrier and send you the alert. It's fine to be ok with it doing that but don't pretend its not doing it.

In addition to my distrust of the government to not to use the data in ways not intended and/or not leave it exposed to hackers who could do God knows what with it, I think it will drain my battery and my data. For this to work, it will need to be monitoring my location and relaying it constantly. Location services are a drain on my battery and data is not unlimited or free.

All these and more are the reasons this app will not be on my phone.
