Good. The wearing of face coves should have been the first thing put into affect when this mess stated...along with physical distancing.....being that it is an air borne respiratory virus.

Rich Americans' pullback in spending is hurting the economic recovery

Denitsa Tsekova

June 20, 2020, 6:49 am

Since the coronavirus pandemic unfolded, many Americans have cut their spending. But those earning the highest incomes have curbed their purchases the most, according to a new report, even though they were less likely to have lost their jobs or incomes.

But the frugality from the highest earners could jeopardize the speed of the U.S. economy’s recovery, experts warned, because many lower income jobs depend on that spending.

In mid-April when consumer spending reached its bottom, the top quartile of earners reduced their spending by 36%, while low-earners shrunk theirs by just 21%, a new paper by the Harvard-based Opportunity Insights group found Insights group found.

It probably makes more sense than meets the eye, Pete. Rich people do things like travel, especially by plane and eat out in fancy restaurants and spend money on such things as tickets to sports events and concerts, not to mention spending money on high end motel and hotel rooms and buy booze in cocktail bars and tip a lot.

I think you've seen too much Robin Leech.

You dont get rich by spending money on frivolity.

Think smaller. Lawn care, oil changes, hair cuts, ice cream cones, kids sports, gasoline etc. Same as you or I.

Yes, it is likely the effect of the closures. Haven't seen too many Bentleys or Rolls Royces lined up in the drive through lane at McDonalds. You need to open up the economy more to have them spend again.

Yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! How many deaths world wide would you deem to be acceptable?
It is what it is . The death toll is far , far below the most modest predictions by the so called experts . We have killed our economy , shouldered our grand children with our load , given more of our freedoms away , for what ? Shit we have just shown the world we will meekly let our government lead us to the box cars .

"Killed" might be a little over kill. It will come back. Trudeau has mainly done the right thing for the wrong reason. After years of paying taxes the struggling citizens need financial support. He should have just imposed a means test and put his political aspirations aside.

I don't know which McDonalds you frequent, but I have NEVER seen a single Bentley or Rolls Royce (let alone lined up) at any McDonalds. :)

No? In the past month I've travelled out of Province twice, rented a condo one weekend and stayed hotel 2 weeks later. I have another trip planned even further with more AirBnB, hotels, food, beer and rental car to rat bag. What's different other than no air travel?

No schools are open, no theatres are open, gotta line up at many stores, can't eat in a restaurant, can't travel out of country, many businesses are still closed, millions still out of werk,...other than that it's pretty much the way it was before the Wuflu hysteria.

Schools and restaurants (and bowling alleys) are open here. Very few stores have line ups now. Actually when it comes right down to it, I have absolutely no desire to travel out of country. Most of these people who go flitting off to foreign lands, don't have an inkling about what is beyond the next hill.

Restaurants and pubs are now open for limited seating out here .
