We already have a total ban on murder. What is wrong with these people?
Well if you are going to kill one , why not kill more it isn’t like they are going to hang you in the public square . Most likely you will be deemed incompetent and placed in psychiatric care for a couple of years and let out on unsupervised day passes .

How many multiple murderers in Canada are in psychiatric care and allowed unsupervised day passes?

The RCMP shot up a fire hall that was being used as an evacuation centre.

WTF???

What were these two idiots doing? I actually suspect they were not that confident in their skill with their weapons, and were worried about confronting the killer, so had a little impromptu target practise ignoring rule 4 "Be sure of your target and what is behind it"

This entire incident simply proves that the people can not depend on the police to defend them, they must defend themselves.

Roger that.

You know me. I'm not nearly as hardcore on "gun rights" as you are, though I come down on the gun-rights side, mostly because none of the plans or proposals I've seen has a realistic chance of working. And the gun nuts will generally see attempts to limit the capacity of guns as a challenge, spurring an "arms race" of ways to get around the laws. Can you say "20-shot revolver?"

But the hard reality upon which everything else rests is that you are your own first and last line of defence. No matter how good "the system" gets (Dayton, Ohio, guy started shooting, cops put him down in 24 seconds, still nine died and 17 were wounded), you are ultimately your best and only true hope.

And taking away the right of responsible citizens to own and carry guns is like allowing "freedom of the press" whilst making possession of paper and ink illegal.

I think those two officers got what hunters in Northern Ontario call "Buck fever"

Oddly enough I find you are well-qualified to make this call - unlike almost all of the other feelings you share here every day.

Who would understand better?

Would you be happy if only the registered owner could arm and fire his/her/? registered rifle or pistol?

I'd have no issue if it took my thumbprint to unlock and fire the weapon.

Do you consider your hunting rifle a weapon or a tool ?

Tool, why?

Well, imo, a weapon includes:

anything designed to be used as a weapon;
anything that a person uses as a weapon, whether that thing is designed as a weapon or not; and
anything that one intends to use as a weapon regardless of its design.

So in my case, my HUNTING rifle was designed for hunting, I haven't used it for a weapon, and I do not intend to use it as a weapon.

Exactly how I feel . Hence the question . When I had a little 22 peashooter back in the day , moving in with a girlfriend , she says I can never have a weapon in my house , I look at her funny and say what weapon . Of course she was a Quebec Liberal , we didn’t last long .

As they rest locked in their safe a couple have shifted to the asset category as antiquities. A couple are great for hunting but impractical as weapons another is perfect as a hunting rifle or for a sniper. One is a flat out weapon that will be an asset in a few more years.
