I think 99/100 lawyers will tell you a defendant should never testify, just keep your mouth and let everyone else do the talking!

Why not the Biden's? They are in the middle and the spark that started all of this. How about Schiff about what he knew about the whistle leaker? How about the whistle blower? They never even tried to subpoena Bolton in the House, they withdrew it after Bolton said he would be open to a legal subpoena, why now? What's the difference now? Oh yeah if he isn't allowed the Dems. can cry cover up.

He did with the Mueller inquiry, when that fell flat the Dems. came after him about Ukraine, this time he decided to use his rights and make the Dems work for it.

The House did an investigation. There was enough evidence to Impeach then send it to the Senate for trial. If guilty he'll be removed, if innocent in the Senate, he stays put. If the WH or Trump had other facts to counter what the various committees were told, why didn't they make them available?
Oh right, because the WH refused to allow it, telling their people to not follow on their subpoenas.
That Trump can't prove his innocence is his own fault.

No the House didn't allow for a fair hearing so why would he participate?

What wasn't fair about it? He was told, repeatedly, that people could testify to the various committees on hand to provide his side of the story and end the issue. He didn't step up to the plate at all with anyone who could defend him. Why wouldn't he have people there to defend him?

17-0 Dem to Rep witnesses now they want to go 1-0 in the Senate
