how many multi family buildings do you know of that have fireplaces? And how many poor people can afford to buy firewood?
Apparently you are not only a slave to taxes......................
you are also a SLAVE TO LIE-beral propaganda as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE WERE DISCUSSING 19th and 18th century EUROPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And fire places and wood stoves WERE MUCH MORE COMMON THEN...................................
NOT JUST FOR HEAT - but for COOKING AS WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Irishman Frank McCourt - the author of the book "Angela`s Ashes - made into a Hollywood movie of the same name...................
was interviewed and asked what he thought of the movie depiction of Dublin ................................
and he said the main thing they got wrong was the garbage in the streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McCourt pointed out that whenever he and his siblings were out with their mother- and if he happened to spot so much as a scrap of
paper blowing across their path - Mom would order the kids to "GRAB IT FOR THE FIRE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McCourt and his parents were living IN A MULTI UNIT Apartment building - AND THEY BURNED WOOD AND COAL FOR HEAT!!!!!!!
In those days a scrap of wood could keep you warm..............................
or cook your dinner........................................
or repair your hovel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In those days the "Rag and Bone man came around TO COLLECT - as the title suggests - ALL YOUR rags and bones and other
useful trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bone meal - because ground up skeletons makes GOOD FERTILIZER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Old rags could be re-worked into lots of things - one reason why modern asphalt roofing shingles do not last as long as they used to..................
is BECAUSE RAGS ARE NO LONGER USED IN THE MIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for fireplaces in more modern multi unit buildings.....................................
you should get into the apartment building on the south west corner of Gerrard St. and Greenwood in Toronto....................
4 story building - multiple units - beautiful fireplaces and nice carved mantels ........................................
built in the 1920`s as I recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or head down to Etobicoke to another very charming old apartment building built on the lake shore ............................................
three floors - multiple units and a fireplace IN EACH UNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Built also in the 1910-30 era approximately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course none of those fireplaces have been used in decades - not since oil heat and electric baseboards were developed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But they were ONCE WELL USED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
