From my understanding of the process, the house will likely to impeach Trump but it is highly unlikely a Republican majority senate would vote to convict/implement by a 2/3 margin. So not sure what use the impeachment by the house is unless it is just a show like when the Republican's impeached Bill Clinton.
See post #749,
That leaves outcome number four, easily the most probable: while the House will impeach, the Senate will decline to convict. Trump will therefore stay right where he is, with the matter of his fitness for office effectively deferred to the November 2020 elections. Except as a source of sadomasochistic diversion, the entire agonizing experience will, therefore, prove to be a colossal waste of time and blather.
Furthermore, Donald Trump might well emerge from this national ordeal with his reelection chances enhanced. Such a prospect is belatedly insinuating itself into public discourse. For that reason, certain anti-Trump pundits are already showing signs of going wobbly, suggesting, for instance, that censure rather than outright impeachment might suffice as punishment for the president’s various offenses. Yet censuring Trump while allowing him to stay in office would be the equivalent of letting Harvey Weinstein off with a good tongue-lashing so that he can get back to making movies. Censure is for wimps."

those of us that have many family members in the US.........and have had dual citizenship....... are bound to be fallowing Trumps antics closely. What captured my own attention was his psychological / status... His immaturity impulsive crude behavior. watching his psychological profile unfold.is fascinating.

I grant you.......that this aspect of Trump does not seem to mater all that much to others. We all see him from different perspectives. Some might even shun psychology / psychiatry. It could be due to lack of education, certain prejudices, or whatever. The fact is that psychology plays a critical role in much of our daily lives. My own concern is his ineffectiveness as a LEADER. Anyone that has been in a leadership position.......KNOWS he is not a leader.....nor does he know how to lead. He only knows to DEMAND, DICTATE and CRITICISE...trash those that don't support him blindly.

For those that support him......he can do now wrong.........or they minimize the negative effects of his behavior.

The entire dynamic is truly fascinating.

From what I'm hearing on C.B.C. this morning most of his supporters are still behind him, GENERALLY SPEAKING but a lot of them are totally against him for pulling the troops out of Syria and letting down the Kurds. He's probably made a big mistake which hopefully will turn out to be a learning exercise, albeit he probably has a lot to overcome!

Better still- who cares what they find? Canadians have got far more important and interesting things to that to obsess over political matters in a foreign country. If Trump should do something twitty, what real difference will it make. Except for going to the bathroom there is very little he can do on his own. The button for the "big one" is NOT on his arm chair.
Trudeau set Canada ablaze long ago Cliffy. How do you like the division he's created so far?

Let down the Kurds? Perhaps the Kurds launching a war against Turkey 42 years ago was a bad idea that came back to haunt them?

They should be grateful the US didn't stand by and let's the ISholes exterminate them.

Nobody seems to remember why the US was helping them in the first place.

Sending combat troops into Syris would have been considered as a sin by Lefties and now they say leaving them to fight there own battles after being trained and equipped is a sin.

I wish they'd make up their simple minds.

Was that when he did that speech in the far North that mentioned the 'Government Hospitals' that disappeared a lot of Indians in the last 70 years??

Look at all the useless shit that has passed as news since then that Canadians obviously feel is much more important than the lives of a few million local Indians. Idi Amin would be proud.

Hey Pete, I know very little of the history of the situation and am not really taking sides, just reporting what one commentator on C.B.C. had to say about Trump's popularity. (Maybe just one woman's opinion)
