Modern day evangelicals might not crucify Jesus today themselves, but they would likely say nothing if he was shot dead for protesting in the biggest open air prison the world has ever seen in Israel, or while attempting to cross imagined border lines in the US.
Like Peter did after the arrest of Jesus, when Peter was questioned repeatedly by the government of the day about whether he knew this criminal preacher of love, they would say “I know him not.” Many of today’s evangelicals would be telling the truth with that statement. They know him not because they obviously know nothing about unconditional love, the only real message Jesus shared.
Mainstream evangelicals [mostly Trump supporters] have done more to destroy the message of their great teacher by their actions than any imagined Devil or Satan ever could. By their actions they reveal the Jesus they follow never preached anything about unconditional all inclusive love. And any religion not based in unconditional love, based rather in laws that have nothing at all to do with love, is not a religion to follow. In fact it is one to run away from. Something we see happening across the board with Christianity.
Luke 22:54-62
Peter Denies Jesus
54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house, and Peter was following at a distance. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” 57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” 58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.
And these self proclaimed devotees of the book will weep bitterly when they finally see who they denied, who they hated. Jesus was not lying when he said: “I and my father are one.” He was also not lying when he said: “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
As Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34)
