.... why would she turn down the Indigenous file? One would think she would have welcomed it as a way to change it from the inside.

I believe the minister's duty is to administer the act as it stands. I don't think (s)he has much, if any, opportunity to change it.

Your attitude has become crystal clear. Also the value of your participation.
you see, they don't need any more members of the group

what they need is someone to oppose

if you want to be that guy you had better have the patience of Job and an advanced degree in ECE

I come here in the hope of some intelligent open minded - even respectful? - discussion with a bit of good-natured humor, maybe ironic. There are traces of that but not many.

I'm not looking for things to oppose. If they're really stupid and/or arrogant I try to ignore them. Sometimes disappoint myself on that score; but I've found the Ignore button :).

What's ECE?

This has become a wide-open forum, and yes.....if you have any stated principles, ideological positions, or beliefs you will be attacked.

It goes with the territory.

I actually enjoy it.

I hope you will too.

Good luck!

Oh, and I have no idea what ECE is.....

Oh! again.....see Hoid just below........Early Childhood Education.

I'm assuming that it is not set in stone, and can be tweaked, and manipulated from within by introducing and voting on motions to do so. The Supreme court does it all the time with court challenges, by changing their interpretations of the law as written.

You are right, TM. Nothing is set in stone and with all the recommendations brought out by the TRC, introducing new legislation to accommodate the report is of prime importance to FNs. The speech by Wilson-Raybould that I posted in the Indigenous topic outlines just how far the former AG was willing to go to do just that.

I read it after I responded to you on this thread and it was truly an eye opener everyone should read it, could interpreted as rebellious to the Crown and taxpayers

For sure the minister and especially his/her bureaucrats can, and do, tweak, interpret - and even get away with ignoring - parts of the act, as they go about administering it. But the act, offensive as its very concept is to those who live under it, still stands. I can easily understand what a repugnant insult it could be to an indigenous person, to be ordered to implement its provisions.

It is apart of a system that they helped develop, they were invited to abolish it in 1967 with the White papers, the FN elite voted against it and reaffirmed it again in 1982 when it was revisited with the constitution.

Are you saying that most FN people value the Indian Act and want it left as-is?

I don't see much connection between what may have happened - politically in 1967, or around the repatriation of the constitution in 1982 - and Jody Wilson-Raybould's 2019 personal objection to being asked to administer the Indian Act.
