As you know I don't argue about climate change or immigration with the white natty climate change deniers.
I did that in the 90s
The debate is over.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is an article selling a LIE-beral point of view that is not accepted by the general public! With some comments of my own in brackets):
Why walkable cities are good for the economy, according to a city planner
People spend more money when cities are less vehicle-oriented.

You’ve probably seen the term “walkability” thrown around in relation to cities, neighborhoods, and even apartments. A city’s walkability, per Walk Score, is determined by analyzing how many errands can be done without a car, and cities with the highest scores (like Boston, New York, and San Francisco) often come with an incredibly steep cost of living.
(Yes- cramming people into a small space to suit city planners means building multiple very tall and quite costly structures to house people! A house in a suburb can be built using non union labour- but a 40 story condo tower usually has an army of union workers building it! Along with a mass of heavy equipment including huge cranes to hoist everything into place! And the condo tower has a MUCH LARGER carbon foot print as well due to all the concrete and steel needed to support those miltiple floors! )
On Walk Score’s one to 100 scale that evaluates cities with a population of 200,000 or more, New York City is the most walkable city in the country with a score of 89, and Fayetteville, North Carolina, is the least walkable with a score of 29. The average walk score of all American cities with a population of over 200,000 is 49.
Walkability is treated as a static part of a city; your city is either walkable or not. You either need a car or you don’t. But a city’s walkability is dynamic and can be improved with people-oriented city planning, which will benefit the local economy and make societies more equitable. Walkability is great for the economy.
(NO! Walkability is ONLY GREAT for LIE-berals trying to save gravy for themselves! Knocking down an old 4 story building and putting up a 40 story building means LIE-berals SAVE ON GRAVY!!!!!)
(The new building can be served by the same number of cops and firemen as before. No need for another new ambulance either! No need for new roads nor for new snow plows either!)
(Having such a jump in population- since the 40 story building holds so many more people- makes for problems at the hospital- but the sick people parked on stretchers in hallways and storage closets usually do not have the ability to do anything about the situation- like leave in disgust at their treatment!)
American city planner Jeff Speck has been advocating for walkability for the past 25 years, and in his new book, Walkability City Rules: 101 Steps to Making Better Places, he carefully outlines how to “sell” walkability and then implement it.
(I live in a house and its located in a place where I can get to several grocery stores and a couple of auto parts stores and a couple of public library branches on my bicycle in 10-20 minutes- if the weather is good! If it is pouring rain or snowing or we are in a HEAT WAVE or if I have bulk items to haul- then I WILL DRIVE!)
(No amount of LIE-beral feel good propaganda- and DELIBERATE LIES- can convince me I would be better off selling my house and my vehicle and moving into a condo tower! LIE-beral city planners have been working for decades to compel us to squash into little boxes- to SAVE THEM gravy on municipal service costs!)
(Nor do LIE-berals consider the sort of burdens that FORCING people to walk everywhere will put on the old and the physically challenged! Nor do LIE-berals want to discuss what happens to the elderly who are MAROONED in their box in the sky- when the elevator service FAILS - as it has done at various Toronto buildings!)
The idea is marketed based on a few big benefits, according to Speck’s book, one of them being economics. Cities with high walk scores also have high property values. According to a 2009 study, each additional walk score point resulted in home values increasing between $500 and $3,000.
(And there is the measurement that home buyers use to decide where they will live- its all a question of personal convenience and personal choice and preference! These personal choices DO NOT fit into a city planner filing system!)
(As example- I once had a job in down town Toronto- and some might have suspected I would either take public transit from my suburban home- or drive downtown and pay the huge parking rates- and they would be WRONG! I DROVE to the nearest handy residential area downtown and parked on the street for free- and completed the last couple of miles to the job site by BICYCLE!)
(And there is the whole problem for transit planners- they CANNOT fully predict how we will react to THEIR selfish needs and choices! The time frame required that I either drive into the city- or at least drive to the nearest transit area- so I must drive anyway- and the trains ran on a schedule that mandated long wait times between trains- meaning standing in summer heat or winter cold for extended periods! So driving most of the route and bicycling the last distance was the choice- based on my preference and cost!)
(Once upon a time I lived in a low rise apartment in the Young St/Eglinton Ave area and grocery shopping options were ROTTEN! There was only ONE large grocery market in the area and it was NOT a walkable distance from me!)
(I could of course have done much shopping at “convenience stores” that I could walk to- but would have suffered from both reduced food options and much higher prices for that “convenience”! Another option would have been to buy a large freezer and stff it into my small apartment- then I would not have needed to restock so often! But of course LIE-berals are trying to FORCE us to reduce electricity use as well so the freezer deal would be a COSTLY SOLUTION!)
(Trying to FORCE “walkability” on people is nothing more than LIE-beral ARROGANCE AND GREED publicly exposed!)
Investing in walkable cities, whether through allocating funds to repaint pedestrian walkways or building affordable housing close to downtowns, also attracts diverse populations and creates jobs. According to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, 63 percent of millennials and 42 percent of boomers would like to live in a place where they don’t need a car. And according to the National Association of Realtors, 62 percent of millennials prefer to live in a walkable community where a car is optional. If cities seem less automobile-dependent, chances are they are more appealing to a range of ages.
(LIE-berals DO LOVE their meaningless numbers! Millennials are so broke and so loaded with student debt that they have given up any thought of EVER owning a car and are now focused only on getting out of debt- and maybe some day owning a crappy little condo some place!)
(As for baby boomers- lets talk about how many of them are on fixed incomes now they have “taken the buyout” -meaning been FORCIBLY retired by a company that is leaving Canada for some place with lower taxes and reduced electricity costs! And now they are scraping along on a fixed income while their costs for everything SOAR!)
(As our govt has grudgingly admitted- there are a lot of Boomers out there who face ugly choices such as either buying food or buying their needed prescription medicines- but they don’t have the money for both- so how to resolve that dilemma! No wonder there are retired people on fixed incomes who don’t want the burden of owning a car!)
(When my father retired - he handed back the company car and WALKED most places that he wanted to go - for the benefit of the exercise! But- just like me- when it was very cold or pouring rain- or he had bulk items to haul - HE DROVE where he needed to go- as his wife had a car he could use as needed!)
(But LIE-berals despise us for WANTING this driving option as it is messing up their city planning and cutting into their gravy supplies as they are compelled to spend more on roads and other infrastructure costs! )
Walking also costs the city very little, unlike cars and even public transit. According to Speck’s book, if a resident takes a bus ride, it may cost them $1 but costs the city $1.50 in bus operation. If a resident decides to drive, it costs the city $9.20 in services like policing and ambulances. When a resident walks, the cost to the city is a penny.
(And is it not remarkable how BADLY LIE-berals do their accounting? What of the massive array of taxes LIE-berals collect for everything from vehicle licence plates to gasoline taxes and income tax paid by auto mechanics?)
(Gravy grabbing LIE-berals are so DESPERATE to find some new vision to offer us that will also protect their supply of gravy AND distract us from their costly vote buying that they are babbling delusional nonsense!!)
