Liberal logic on democratic reform backwards

Here’s a little lesson in Liberal logic: Because we Liberals are so enlightened, everything we say makes sense even when it doesn’t – perhaps especially when it doesn’t.
Lost in the buzz over Prime Minister Justin “Boom-Boom” Trudeau’s antics in the House of Commons on Wednesday is the way his Liberals are systematically attempting to reform our democracy in very undemocratic ways.
(Gunter refers to the dust up in the Commons when Our idiot Boy Justin lost his patience and ran through Parliament, shouting “get the Fcuk out of my way” and elbowing and and bruising a female NDP candidate while trying to drag a male NDP MP back to his seat!)
Here is the core of Liberal logic regarding democratic reform: Making Canada’s democracy more responsive to the will of the people is too important a task to be entrusted to the people.
Rather, to ensure the proper changes are made, the task must be done by Parliament, which of course means by the Liberal majority.
No potential for conflict of interest in that arrangement.
(Subsequently, Maryam Monseff- the Iranian born liar pretending to be an Afghan because it is more politically acceptable- who happens to be the chair of the all party committee studying electoral reform- had a shrieking melt down in parliament when her committee defied her and insisted that we should have a national referendum before implementing any electoral reform!)
(The committee had become uneasy as it became obvious that the LIE-beral “reforms” were designed to turn our Parliament into a spending machine with no off switch! LIE-beral electoral reform is designed to let so many small one issue parties into parliament that it is paralyzed in the Italian fashion- where the Italians have had 65 govts in 66 years- with NO long term planning for anything being done since the system is so splintered nobody can gather up the reins of power and shut down the insanity!)
In short, the Liberals have convinced themselves the way we select our Parliaments is flawed – undemocratic, unfair, unrepresentative. Therefore, the only way to ensure the right changes are made is to give control of the changes to the very Parliament that has become illegitimate.
(Well, LIE-berals are certainly do believe our system is unfair- to them- but then LIE-berals are so grossly entitled and wildly arrogant that they view themselves as the natural governing party and see no reason why anybody would ever have any reason to vote against them- unless they were mentally ILL! Lie-berals have all the charm and grave of savage Soviet Commissars having a BAD Day and LIE-berals are so hypocritical that they would- and DO let mentally ill people vote for them but get hugely cranky when otherwise normal people vote against them!)
But Liberal logic doesn’t end there.
The issue that led to Trudeau grabbing and elbowing MPs the other night was the opposition’s reluctance to pass a Liberal motion that would have limited the right of opposition MPs to speak out against government bills and give the government almost exclusive power to decide when debates end.
In the name of improving our democracy, of course.
(LIE-berals also consider that they should be entitled to label anybody who is critical of any of their policies as some sort of Islamophobe or hate monger and thus be deserving of legal harassment by our Human Rights but too often Wrong Kangaroo courts- on behalf of Fascist oriented LIE-berals!)
All of which comes on top of the Liberals already limiting debates more in their first six months than the Harper Tories did in their first term.
The Liberals’ tortured understanding of what democracy is – we got a majority, now everyone else has to do as we say – extends from top to bottom in their cabinet and caucus. Even Maryam Monsef, the Minister of Democratic Institutions is infected.
Just hours before our MMA prime minister got his elbows up (literally) in the octagon … er, the House, Monsef insisted no referendum was needed on fundamentally changing Canadian elections because “democracy is more than just about voting. It is about working together to ensure that every voice and every perspective is engaged and included in governance.” Except the voices that disagree with Liberals.
In the past, when “the Progressive Conservative Party extended the right to vote to women and indigenous persons,” Monsef went on, the Tories “did not hold a referendum.” They just worked with the other parties in Parliament to bring about those changes.
And Monsef might have a point – if she weren’t talking about two entirely different matters.
(Offering people the opportunity to vote is one thing- but splintering our parliament into tiny warring factions that talk matters to death without getting anything done is another matter! The Italian example of what is wrong with LIE-beral electoral reform leading to proportional representation is a SCARY object lesson for Cdns! The Israeli experience with electoral reform is one that even Israelis lament due to it giving so much power to small lunatic fringe groups at critical moments- the Israelis would like to change over to our first past the post British system but cannot gather up enough power in their SPLINTERED Parliament to do so! The New Zealanders experimented with electoral reform in the LIE-beral fashion for a few years and switched back to our first past the post system because they did not like the political paralysis that came with LIE-beral style electoral reform! But then the New Zealanders have gone bankrupt nationally once already and it has scared them into scorning LIE-beral style deficit spending!)
To equate getting rid of first-past-the-post with extending the vote to women and First Peoples is as insulting as it is ludicrous. If the question was whether to extend the franchise to a class of people currently prevented from voting by race, gender or ethnicity, there would be no trouble with Parliament doing so on its own.
But to change how we elect governments- particularly in a way that is likely to benefit the Liberals- without giving Canadians the final say is not only obnoxious, it’s dangerous to national unity.
(As an example- LIE-beral reform would allow a Sharia Law party to take seats in our parliament! We would be faced with all sorts of lunatic fringe groups such as a PETA PARTY dedicated to banning any consumption of meat! And why not a Hamas party dedicated to turning Jews into third class citizens? LIE-berals already send foreign aid to Hamas so why would they object to such a party? And after all we already have the Bloc Quebecois in parliament and they are sworn to the destruction of Canada!)
If we are to have Liberal governments forever because the Liberals use their Parliamentary majority to force through reforms that favour them, then both Quebec and the West may very well return to their previous grieving ways.
One of the achievements for which former PM Stephen Harper gets no credit is the way he quieted regional alienation to the point where Confederation is no longer threatened on a seemingly biennial basis from one end of the country or the other.
(Albertans are already making noises about separation if they don’t get a better deal on pipelines with Ottawa- how much more grumpy will they become if Our idiot Boy wins another election in 2019 and gets away with killing the Kinder Morgan pipeline as he desires and destroys the Alberta oil patch in the process- as he has told us he wants to? And just what industry do LIE-berals think will absorb all those unemployed oil workers? It certainly will not be the electric TOY car industry that LIE-berals are encouraging as a support for their electricity system price gouging!)
Rigging elections in favour of centrist and Central governments, and calling that democratic reform, could put that all at risk again.
(Happily the Cdn public seems to be turning against LIE-beral “sunny ways”!)

After his thread on Twitter that boosted Liberal fundraising and membership with its talk about the “cult of diversity” and “extreme multiculturalism”, the rogue Conservative MP was at it again on Wednesday. First he noted that Conservative immigration critic, Michelle Rempel, was holding a press conference talking about Liberal policy. “After disavowing me last week for raising the issue, and telling me to shut up, my colleagues have just realized that it is something Canadians find important and want to hear about. Great example of strong leadership.”
Later he turned to supply management, on which he has been a consistent critic. “Why is my party still defending the cartel and backing the Trudeau Liberals in putting all of Canada’s economy at risk,” he said.
I have known Bernier for more than a decade and hold him in fond regard. But this behaviour is erratic and irresponsible.
His only explanation in reply to a request to talk was that he’s “in politics to defend real conservative ideas.”
But he has to know it looks like he’s goading Scheer into kicking him out of the party.
The leader can’t do that unilaterally and it would require 20 per cent of the caucus to sign a letter to caucus chair, David Sweet, asking him to hold a vote. That hasn’t happened ahead of a caucus meeting in Halifax at the party’s policy convention.
“No-one is in the mood to have a crisis at the convention. But caucus is pissed and I expect a few people will let Max know it,” said one MP.
Rempel gave a taste of what awaits Bernier in Halifax. “My colleague has a choice to make: does he want Andrew Scheer to win or Justin Trudeau to win?” she asked.

The federal government’s own internal polling contradicts the Immigration Minister’s claim that Canadians are clamouring for increased immigration.
John McCallum told reporters last week that “almost all” of the Canadians he met with during consultations this summer told him to boost Canada’s immigration targets.
(That`s no surprise as LIE-berals don`t believe that those who disagree with them are even close to being Canadian-and thus not entitled to speak on any subject!)
However internal polling conducted by Mr. McCallum’s department found Canadians are just fine with the current targets, even though most people had no idea how many immigrants currently come to Canada each year.
Mr. McCallum recently said that he wants to substantially increase the number of immigrants that Canada welcomes each year as a way of dealing with the demographic challenges facing the Canadian economy. He said he is lobbying his cabinet colleagues to support such a move. The results of those discussions will be revealed in November when Ottawa announces its 2017 immigration targets.
When survey respondents were told that over the last few years, approximately 250,000 new immigrants came to Canada each year, 59 per cent said that was about the right number. A quarter of respondents – 25 per cent – said that was too many, while 8 per cent said that was too few.
(These numbers are clearly NOT an endorsement for much higher immigration!)
The detailed survey conducted by Harris/Decima at a cost of $83,487 explored the views of Canadians on a wide range of immigration issues facing the current government.
(In other words, LIE-berals are spending OUR MONEY in an effort to find out how many immigrant votes they can import and PURCHASE at our cost!)
The survey was conducted in two waves. The first involved 1,512 people and was conducted Nov. 18-24, 2015. The second wave was conducted Jan. 7-14, 2016, and surveyed 1,500 people. The margin of error is listed as plus- or minus-2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
“The direction in which I would like to go is to increase substantially the number of immigrants,” Mr. McCallum said in a speech last month to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Manila, Philippines. “I think we need immigrants because we’re aging, because we have labour shortages. And so that is the direction in which we are heading now.”
(And why is McCallum telling this to Philipinos rather than to Cdns? Is it because HE KNOWS what we think and he doesn’t want to get CALLED OUT on his BULLSHIT?)
During that speech, Mr. McCallum acknowledged that the government would have some convincing to do in terms of the views of Canadians.
(Yes, we get it-LIE-berals want more immigrants to be beholden to and stand with LIE-berals in elections since LIE-berals no longer have any support from ordinary Cdns. Even worse, the support that LIE-berals have traditionally counted on from highly privileged civil service union Hogs is eroding due to our nation being bankrupt and LIE-berals having difficulty funding the civil service gravy train to properly retain Hog votes!)
“I think with our mind set of welcoming newcomers in the beginning, with the facts of the labour shortages, aging population, we have a good case to make, and I think we will be able to convince a higher proportion of Canadians that this is the right way for Canada to go,” he said.
(Typical LIE-beral fact bending by McCallum-if LIE-berals were so concerned about getting the most useful immigrants then why did they destroy Conservative immigration initiatives? Under newly written LIE-beral laws, the number of people now being admitted who LACK proficiency in either official Cdn language and who also lack suitable education to succeed in Canada, will soar. LIE-berals have set family re-unification as a major priority-meaning people who have no hope of being admitted as immigrants based on their own credentials will ride in on the coat tails of a single other family member who will sponsor them and swear to be RESPONSIBLE for the family members-until it gets awkward and the inept goofs will be dumped on welfare and health care and Canada pension plans to which they NEVER contributed!)
(We have seen this show before in which people who swore faithfully to look after their own sick and aged and mentally ill family members suddenly find they MUST dump responsibility for those family members onto CDNS! It’s WHY Conservatives tightened up our immigration laws-to CONTROL health, welfare and pension COST! If I want to keep a pet I will get a dog and ask the neighbour to look after his own family! My own welfare and that of MY family takes priority over people that LIE-berals have chosen to invite here because they need to buy the votes!)
A Nanos Research survey of 1,000 Canadians conducted for The Globe and Mail in August found 39 per cent said the government should accept fewer immigrants in 2017 than the previous year. Thirty-seven per cent said Canada should accept the same amount in 2017, while only 16 per cent said the target should be increased.
(THREE separate polls-two by Harris/Decima and another by Nanos all tell us McCallum is full of shit about immigration preferences!)
The government’s 2016 immigration plan had a target of about 300,000 immigrants, which was up from recent years.
Conservative MP and immigration critic Michelle Rempel said the government needs to provide a detailed plan of what it has in mind.

They get "as mad as hell and they won't take it anymore" and split the party over and over and hand victory to the Liberals over and over. The Western Canada Concept? They "weren't going to take that Eastern crap anymore" and they split the vote. The Reform Party wasn't going to take any of that Ottawa crap anymore, so they went East to clean up Dodge and kept the right wing vote well split for a long, long time while failing to change boo. The Bloc Quebecois split away the Quebec Conservative vote that Mulroney had worked at like a performing seal because of the OUTRAGE of Canada, guaranteeing that the Liberals stay firmly in control.
