'I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar! Aluminum will now be 20% and Steel 50%. Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!'
Does he not understand that by raising tariffs against the world, the US is in fact contributing directly to raising the value of the US dollar relative to other currencies? When that happens, will he just raise tariffs even more to compensate like a dog chasing its tail until no one will be able to afford US products in the end as the US dollar just keeps rising?
