Billions of dollars in limbo as incoming Ontario premier vows to nix cap-and-trade

The cancellation of Ontario's cap-and-trade system could leave billions of dollars in carbon credits in limbo and consumers on the hook for pricey home upgrades that were expected to be part of a rebate program.

Incoming premier Doug Ford has vowed to immediately dismantle cap-and-trade, but has offered few details on how the system will be wound down, and how or if participating companies will be reimbursed.

Jennifer Small, president of a national group that represents the Canadian window and door industry, said it wants an extension to a cancelled rebate program that has paid $500 per opening in which energy-efficient windows are installed.

The GreenON rebate program, which also funded incentives for renovators to buy qualified heat pumps, insulation, solar panels, thermostats and other energy-saving projects, has been closed — although a government website says work completed by Aug. 31 may still receive rebate funds.

You will have to explain if you can how cutting out a scam expense to consumers is going to cost money.

To the time when one income could support a family because half of the pay cheque wasn't going to the government.

That is not likely to happen again. Today about 75% of income is spent on stuff that would have been recognized as luxuries back in 1950. For example my mother had about 3 pairs of footwear, a pair of walking shoes, a pair of slippers and a pair of rubber boots, O.T.O.H. my sister today has about 30 - 40 pairs of shoes and 25 of them are useless 364 days of the year. Our hydro bill was adequate to cover half a dozen light bulbs, a toaster and an iron and of course the radio. We were happy with that because we didn't know any different. We got a refrigerator in 1954. I remember hot summer days when we put perishables down the well in a bucket. My dad raised rabbits so when things got tough we had something to eat.

...our cottage was one room shack on the water, with an outhouse out back, and a hole in floor for the sink to drain through...NO HYDRO and a log for a dock.
:)
tuff times

WE had a 50 Merc on a 15 foot cedar strip boat...It did not take us long to get there.

No offense but if you want to upgrade your house, pay for it yourself and stop trying to steal more money from me by cranking my gas bill.

Unless you are coming to my house to help me shingle the roof this weekend, then **** off and pay for your own housing upgrades.
