That's not a very propitious start for Doug Ford. I mean Kathleen Wynne is degenerate dyke but i expect more from Ford.
Marijuana will always be a powerful and anything but benign narcotic. Habitual use will lead to paranoia, depression, social isolation.. ultimately psychosis. Although 95% of people can responsibly use alcohol; it's likely almost nobody will be able to responsibly tolerate cannabis. It's a very internal psychotropic drug which will acerbate any underlying mental pathology.
There is NO real therapeutic value for canabis. All the industry has come up with is anecdotes and cynical promotion that has never been backed up with clinical double blind research limited to the active agent of THC.
Ford's comments seem to indicate he is a very conventional NeoConservative, with their mantra of the (non existent) 'Invisible Hand of the Free Market' as the cure-all for all economic, social and moral problems.. and government as the problem.
If this guy is one of the idiotci Reaganomic trickle downers its the last thing Ontario (or Canada) needs. It'll just add to the uninterrupted litany of mediocrities and incompetents of all major parties we've been led by for the last 30 years.
There is quite a bit of research out there on medical benefits, seems to have the ability to, ease nerves in MS, and Parkinson's shrink tumors with high concentrate oils from what I've heard and read, I'd love to see more beneficial studies done on it.
I personally don't use it, or like it, for work I'm screened for it, but If I end up with a disease like Parkinson's, MS, or cancerous tumor I sure as hell will try it.
