My kids go for free.

Every school my kids and grand kids have attended collected fees for one thing or another and quite often start on the first day of school in the fall. Kids who take shop have to pay for material used, there's usually fees for field trips, for sports programs. Like Gerry says you are naïve to think otherwise.

someone ripped you off because public school is free.

Hey, if you are looking for a nice piece of waterfront for sale, I have a nice beach half way up Mt. Robson you can buy!

Northern Ontario,
We haven't been involved with Grade 7 for a few years...................tuition is just ONE of the costs!
Snowflakes like Flossy want more kids going to university so they can brainwash more people...

Education should be free. If you want to make money you charge foreign students way more. Which is exactly what we do -
Oh yeah, f*cking brilliant idea. Our universities are already for-profit enterprises with many Canadians being forced to study abroad because the universities will take a foreign student before a Canadian student simply because the foreign student has to pay more.
Free university education for Canadians won't mean squat. If they're already being denied spots even though they're paying to go, what chance will they have when they don't have to pay at all if there isn't a fundamental change in the way our universities operate?
As I write this, there are more Canadians studying medicine abroad than in Canada because our medical schools are filled with foreigners who pay more to attend. I fail to see how free education would even begin to improve that situation.

Having said that, our universities should only be accepting the best and brightest anyway. Your grades should be the prime determining factor for entry, not your financial situation.

Really..... aside from our taxes, there's no "fees" that need to be paid? No books? No materials? It's all "free"?

15 years ago I recall paying around $175 in various fees at the beginning of the year and about the same throughout the year for this that and the other thing.

Well, I find that our system works well and promptly for me and my family.

I don't listen to Conrad Black about anything.

If you can learn to use the google, you can learn almost anything.
Wait until you get sick , just sick enough that you must see a specialist . Well you are waiting you continue to get sicker . After a year when you finally see the specialist and are diagnosed with cancer tell me how great it is .

We already have it for K to 12.

How do we do that?

Well, I needed a biopsy, and got to see the specialist within 5 days, because there was a concern that it was major issue.

making post secondary education free would result in many more health care professionals in Canada.

that would only improve healthcare and reduce wait times.

Making healthcare free would somehow eliminate the controls that the provinces and universities have over numbers of doctors and how many seats are available to be filled?

it would enable many more students to reach the graduate level and create a larger pool of candidates for whatever openings there are.

it would also free students from these large debt loads that are hurting so many of them and instead allow them to direct all that money into housing and other sectors, instead of banks.

Only if there are openings at the graduate level.

Making education free with the existing limits on enrollment would not change things any.

By charging a small user fee would free up a lot of the small health centers to concentrate on those that truly need help

At a cost to who?

And would deter people from going in with hang nails and runny noses!

it would be paid for in a number of ways.

lots of countries already have tuition free post secondary education so it can do done. Its simply a matter of deciding it is worth the cost.
