So, you got paid for your work, just like private sector.

But you got paid as well or better than they did.

No we didn't get paid as well as they did. We got paid $70 while they were paid 80. That was part of the scheme of the public service going to a 35 hour week so they could show the tax payer they were saving them money. I might be crazy but I'm not f**King stupid! :) I may have been born at night but it wasn't last night! :)

Since then, public sector workers are as well paid as private sector, if not better paid.

Depends on the job. I was paid way better in the private sector. I took my current job because of the flexible hours, not the pay...and the desire to be around when the kids were growing up.

I know a mechanic working piece work and makes close to double what our municipal mechanics make.

Office staff probably do better

JLM was a ditch digger on a road construction crew. Probably not a lot of private sector work in that line of work back in the day

So, you think you should have been paid for 8 hours, when you only worked 7?

That's definitely civil service mentality!

Northern Ontario,
Did he? Where does it hurt? You Yanks have got to get over your thin skin! If you were up here you'd be laughed out of the country the first day.

Same with us, we actually started direct deposit back in the 80s. Of course I have a credit which I do use for big purchases to get the cash back at the end of the year and also anything important I might need a receipt, but I like cash for everyday purchases. Pretty well always pay cash for groceries. Just make you a little more aware of how much you are spending. Nothing worse than a bill at the end of the month!

Not really, we were working and getting paid for 7 hour days while the private sector has historically worked and got paid for 8.
I use debit also for everyday purchases because my bank and also a few others don't charge debit fees for seniors...

Eat your heart out Cannot, something else for you to cry about.....ROFLMAO

The trough has been good to me.

That's too bad. I use a credit card and get cash back. That's because I'm smart....and you're stupid because my bank doesn't charge me or anybody else fees for using a debit. I can only imagine how hard they laughed at you after you left thinking they'd done you a big favour

Once upon a time we had lots of industry. Big companies with thousands of employees. All with a pension plan you could live on after 30 years of contributions.Government employees mostly didn't make a huge wage but had a lifetime job with a good benefit package. Now they have the high paying jobs with the solid gold benifits and we mostly have mcjobs.

The public sector pays sweet f-ck all.

It's obviously way above your head. They aren't in the business of giving money away are they?

Are you deep ending this AM? Skipped your meds?

Explain it again.

Oh wait I remember. VFFs nevery pay put of pocket and a the VFF tax credit is free money.

But before you lie again let's hear from real VFFs.

I wrote a letter to our local paper as well and they also did an editorial titled "Firefighters poorly served by MPs". After all a business man gets to write off his expenses, why not a small token for Vollies to cover their gas and repairs, clothing etc. After all ,all it means is that you get to keep a small portion of your own hard-earned money to cover expenses! Thanks, BCFIRE

Another guy on here who is a little slow on the uptake. No I think I should have been paid for 8 hours when I worked 8. I wanted to work 8, but the Union Heavies found 8 too stressful and difficult...............no strength or stamina!

That doesn't negate the lie a VFF doesn't have costs.

Nobody said that. Youre just sniffly because your idiotic statement that a firefighter has to spend money to get the credit has been disproved.

You should just stop discussing things you know nothing about

Not all VFF have costs BTW. I don't.
