Canada can hardly take the role of neutral benefactor to all when we take part in pretty much every asshat misadventure that the Pentagon or the UN Sec Council or NATO dreams up.
Under Harper Canada extinguished parliamentary responsibility for declaring war. We are now at war whenever we are tasked to be by our geopolitical over lords.

So you do the math!! My own investments over the years did very well so why would I expect less from the professionals??

Take a look at the actual balance sheet some day, had you any semblance of understanding in this area, you'd quickly come to the conclusion that the OAP and CPP are no where near in a position to cover the current liabilities in addition to the unfunded liabilities of our longer-living and increasingly growing senior population.
Further, You have avoided any reference to the actual costs to the system that you represent, let alone the actual contribution of capital (incl ROI) representing your financial inputs as compared to what you have presently withdrawn and have remaining outstanding... What all this means is that you don't have any form of appreciation of the system other than believing that someone invested money on your behalf and now you are entitled to an endless pension.
PS - I figured the Nazi comment was equally as relevant as the allegation you made to ES as being racist all due to you not agreeing with him..... Fun, right?
And that is exactly why immigration is necessary. We are not sustaining our population levels. I explained all that. Getting rid of pensions and that is what will eventually happen, simply takes us back to the 30's and 40's and as usual hits the middle class and the poor. I really don;t care much because I have more than enough. I see old people in their 70's and 80's working in the US and when asked why. because they have no health care and need medications. This is what your solution will bring to Canada's door. Many other countries have managed universal pensions and health care. So it is more than possible.

You may want to get your facts straight before you go running off at the mouth about something you know very little about.
Nobody with the Civil Service gets a full pension that hasn't worked a full 35 years and even those who have worked 35 years have a hard time making ends meet unless they've made some voluntary savings like R.R.S.P.s. Maybe do some research before you go shooting off your trap. Not every Civil Service employee is a doctor, lawyer, nurse or judge.

I said- and I am repeating numbers supplied to TVO/The Agenda- that TWO THIRDS of Cdns who retire voluntarily before age 65 are civil servants! I DID NOT SAY what they did for a living!
And it is FACT that even a lowly govt secretary receives both salary AND PENSION that is way beyond anything she can get in private sector.
With the further benefit that civil service Hogs take- on average three hundred percent MORE sick days than ordinary people- and yet STILL manage to bank thousands of dollars and sometimes tens of thousands of dollars "unused sick time"!
Liberal payments to teacher unions stink

People know when something doesn’t pass the smell test. Here’s an example.
Ontario’s Liberal government gave away tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to teacher unions, who then spent millions of dollars on advertising attacking the Progressive Conservatives in election after election.
Given that the PCs are the Liberals’ main political opponents in Ontario — the NDP finishing no better than a distant third in any general election post 1990 — any reasonable person understands how this puts the Liberals and teacher unions in a perceived conflict of interest.
An apparent case of, “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours,” using public money.
(I say its NOT a `perceived` conflict-I say it’s a GROSS AND GLARING conflict of interest that ought to be ILLEGAL!)
Of course, the Liberals and the teacher unions deny any quid pro quo between government payouts to teacher unions and anti-PC teacher union ads, which help the Liberals win elections.
This after Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk reported Wednesday that Ontario governments gave $80.5 million to teacher unions between 2000 and 2015, ostensibly to help pay for collective bargaining and professional development.
Some of that was paid by the previous Conservative government, defeated by the Liberals in 2003.
(Yeah-even Conservative recognize the poisonous conflict of interest and have tried to apply an antidote!)
But the lion’s share came from the Liberal governments of Kathleen Wynne and Dalton McGuinty.
This included $22 million from the Liberals in 2006, which Lysyk reported was handed out, “with no strings attached — no requirement for the unions to tell the government what they did with the money.”
In addition to the $80.5 million, Lysyk found, the Liberal government paid another $6.8 million in 2008/09 to school boards, which provided the funds to a teachers’ union to allocate to teachers who requested financial support for professional development.
While the government claims the union payments helped reach labour contracts with the teachers more quickly, it’s every bit as likely these payments prolonged the negotiations, because the teacher unions felt less financial pressure to settle.
(And in fact we now have teachers with NO contract-the tentative contracts hammered out in autumn 2015 have Not been ratified and now teachers are looking to re-negotiate-a YEAR LATER-and they EXPECT A LOT MORE GRAVY this time around!!!!)
The Liberals also gave $14.7 million to school boards to cover their costs of negotiations from 2008 to 2015.
Lysyk found no other examples of the Ontario government paying the negotiating costs of major public sector unions and no other province which paid its teacher unions anything near what Ontario did to fund negotiations.
Indeed, couldn’t the tens of millions of tax dollars paid out by Queen’s Park to its teacher unions have been better spent on educational programs for students?
The Liberals’ response to the auditor general’s report is to close the barn door after all the horses have fled.
They say they won’t finance teacher negotiations any more.
(I say no-they will just find another way to hand out OUR MONEY to their favorite discriminatory, grossly conflicted election law bending supporters!)
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Greg Essena warned in a report last year that millions of dollars in third-party election advertising by teacher unions and others are creating an “uneven playing field that can potentially influence electoral outcomes”.
(I say GEE-do yah think its an uneven playing field? But I guess we should be grateful that a Hog would recognize the discrimination after all these years-one might think the guy was worried for his job or something!)

Here is another one for you about Hydro electric Hogs being BOUGHT By LIE-berals!
LIE-berals are tinkering with our electrical system yet again. They are working hard to turn our electrical system into a giant slush fund they can dip into as necessary to BUY VOTES.
LIE-berals cannot get elected unless they BUY plenty of civil service Working Family Hog votes! This means throwing LOTS of gravy at them-more every year. By 2018 LIE-berals will owe the Hogs in Ontari-owe something like THREE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS in deferred pension payments-and this does NOT cover what LIE-berals have promised to federal and municipal Hogs! We didn’t have the money when LIE-berals made the promises and bought the votes and we don’t have it now-but LIE-berals will do what they can to keep their special union supporters happy even as the rest of us freeze in the dark!
LIE-berals will owe OSSTF-high school teachers close to 55 Billion dollars for pension payments by 2018 and they owe the very much smaller power workers union a mere half billion for pensions-right now- but it all adds up-NINETEEN separate unions at the provincial level alone and they ALL have their hands out! So electricity costs (AND TAXES) go up to keep Hogs happy and LIE-berals in power and to hell with the country!
Of course it would be easier to keep electricity costs down if LIE-berals did not do the sort of crap described below:
The latest electrical mess that LIE-berals and their Toronto (Red) Star newspaper allies wants swept under the rug involves the conversion of a generating station in Thunder Bay from burning coal to burning `bio-mass`-that means pellets made from flammable waste products-meaning garbage/paper/wood sawdust and etc.
One would think that Lie-berals might have learned from the gas plant mess in Oakville but no-Lie-berals saved 2 seats in Oakville by scrapping the 2 gas plants at a cost OVER one billion dollars. And now we have Lie-berals spending enormous sums to convert the Thunder Bay generating plant to burn bio-mass and SAVE SIXTY UNION hydro worker jobs.....AND ALSO save 2 seats for Lie-berals in the area as well!
Its just too bad for tax payers that there is NO Cdn source for biomass fuel! ALL fuel for the newly converted plant MUST be shipped in from Europe! And Red Star media whores want to tell us it’s a great deal for the environment and for tax payers! Apparently Red Star does not believe there are any tax payers out there who do not belong to Lie-beral party or civil service unions! The pellets get shipped across 3000 MILES of ocean, then another 1000 miles up St Lawrence to Lake Superior and then its run in trucks to the generating plant. And the carbon footprint of all that shipping is HUGE!
And the COST to operate that biomass plant and produce that electricity is TWENTY FIVE TIMES HIGHER than any other form of generation in Ontari-owe! But hey-what price are Lie-berals NOT willing to pay (with OUR money) just so long as their civil service union Hogs are happy and keep voting Lie-beral?
And should we ask if Lie-berals did any comparison shopping before launching themselves into this mess? We might ask how much pollution would be produced if we kept on burning coal-but also put the best and latest models of air scrubbers on the chimneys? And then compared that result to the carbon footprint needed to collect all that biomass in European garbage trucks and haul it to a treatment plant and form it into pellets and then SHIP it to a sea port and load it on a ship for that 4000 MILE boat ride to Thunder Bay-and then off load it to trucks to be hauled to the generator- there to be BURNED for electricity generation,
Ontari-owe citizens don’t like incinerators as they spew out all manner of nasty stuff and isn’t the Thunder Bay biomass generator a fancy sort of incinerator-with a HUGE carbon trail stretching back to Europe? Did Lie-berals do ANY comparisons regarding the relative carbon footprints of various fuels? Apparently NOT! But they DID count union VOTES VERY CAREFULLY!
And did LIE-berals ever consider that they might be able to ship our natural gas from the prairies to Thunder Bay a LOT CHEAPER than buying crap from Europe? A one thousand mile pipeline from Saskatchewan versus a 4000 mile ship ride plus a horde of trucks running at each end to load and unload costly European pellets?
But building the pipeline would be time consuming even if it might be better for the environment in the long run -and of course civil service Hogs NEED JOBS NOW! LIE-berals cannot win votes by laying off Hogs till a pipe line is built! And was it not Ontari-owe LIE-berals that recently backed away from their plans to cut us off from heating our homes with natural gas and instead force us to use WAY MORE electricity? With LIE-berals collecting a nice little windfall profit!
Natural gas apparently is not good for us in our homes being used in modern furnaces with a heat recovery rate of about 95 percent but it IS good for LIE-beral electrical generation plants where over 30 percent of the heat energy is wasted going up the chimney? Unless of course Hog jobs are on the line and then its “full speed ahead with biomass and screw the environment and tax payer too?
And Red Star does not want to discuss the reality that electricity from the newly converted biomass plant costs TWENTY FIVE TIMES MORE than any other generating method! Media whores will sneer at Ontari-owe auditor general Bonnie Lysyk and will repeat the slurs of our Lie-beral energy minister that she is not intelligent enough to comment on the electrical generation file.....except that slur raises MORE questions that Red Star does not want to discuss!
Lie-berals PICKED Lysyk as their auditor-hired her away from Manitoba Hydro where she had been auditor in chief for ten years. Did Lie-berals not do their homework-yet again-and simply not realize she COULD comment intelligently on electrical generating issues? Or did they assume she was too dumb to find the skeletons buried in shallow graves in the Lie-beral electrical closet? Or did they assume they could muzzle her so that any skeletons she did find would not see the light of day?
And isnt it handy that Red Star and Lie-berals will so often sneer at their chosen but “inadequately informed” auditor but WONT speak at all about the truths she has exposed! Media whores ALLEGE almost daily that Lie-beral green energy is saving our environment-without the bother of producing any real facts. Yet at the same time they bury or IGNORE real facts about the green energy mess Lie-berals are making of our province! Would you like a LARGE slice of hypocrisy with your costly electricity?
If, as Lie-berals assert, that Lysyk is incompetent to study hydro books then why don’t they fire her? Or are they more likely afraid of the wrongful dismissal suit Lysyk would launch, and the public display of dirty Lie-beral laundry that would result ?
And there is the further question of why Lie-berals sold a portion of Ontari-owe Power generation and in the process BLOCK any access (now and into the future) to Hydro books by any public auditor. What are they trying to hide? And given the criminal behaviour and massive WASTE of public dollars in the gas plant messes, ORNGE, E-health and MARS, one has to assume the Lie-berals will have LOTS TO HIDE, once their bio-mess and hydro sales disasters are fully implemented!
Red Star whores tell us Lie-berals are looking for a local bio-mass fuel supply-I guess that means some Lie-beral `friend` will get a solid gold deal to make that fuel for Lie-berals...and just like the MARS building and the entire green energy mess, you have to ask how much it will cost to produce local bio-mess fuel? Will we get completely screwed with 30 times higher generation cost? Or will Lie-berals give us a break with ONLY 22 times higher generation costs?
Lie-berals and their media whore allies seem to think Ontari-owe is some weird sort of mushroom farm and that we all ought to be fed fresh ripe bullshit on a regular basis! And Red Star is aiding and abetting this shameless robbery!

You're talking about immigration as a solution to supporting social services levels and that's a slippery slope.
In the end, there is a reason that private companies, and now gvts, are opting for defined contribution pension arrangements over defined benefit.... Ultimately, defined benefit is unsustainable in all senses of the word and this in turn leads us to the underlying issue of personal responsibility.
Anyone that refuses to take the step(s) to accommodate for the needs of their own future will eventually be facing some very stressful circumstances and sadly, they will have no one to blame but themselves.

You've been saying that for about 8 years.......................Don't hold your breath, there's a few members in my recent family tree who went to their late 90s - one aunt just turned 98 the other day and still drives as far as I know. Next cousin older than me just turned 85 a month ago and is still going strong. Just based on your behaviour I might out last you.
First of all it is true that government pensions are minimal, and not meant to provide luxury. Many things in life are unpredictable. In the end many people are unable for many different reasons able to provide or even earn enough through their own efforts to provide a decent pension in their retirement years,
Do we simply put them all on welfare?? That solution is a form of punishment for lack of education, illness and before Workmen's compensation, life alterations injuries. Basic pensions and other pensions provides a life sustaining basis to all in one form or another.
Now Canada has high personal taxes and I for one do not object to paying them, as LONG as they mostly go to providing for all Canadians. I am among the most fortunate, mostly because I was able to work hard, lucky enough to have decent and forwarding looking parents and teachers that understood the value of learning but mostly for having good health.
In my personal opinion it is not about cost but about providing for the least fortunate among us. Our high taxes are better spent there.
It can only be improved by sharing our lifestyle with those who will work and contribute to Canada and not viewing everyone who want to share the benefits and the high taxes with suspicion of freeloading. The nice part is one with a bit of ambition can really be grateful for Canada's lifestyle.
