"See when it starts
To fall apart
Man, it really falls apart
Like boots or hearts
Oh when they start
They really fall apart"
-Boots or Hearts

Birth and death are planted too close apart

Gord Downie was not only a fantastic artist, but a humanitarian. Even beyond that, he was decent guy. I never met him personally, but his genuine kindness toward a friend of mine will never be forgotten.

RIP Gord.

Well,,,,,he was a Leftie !!

So.

His melodies were tuneless but his poetry was OK.

Rip.

Can't agree with you there, Walter.

Me either. First time I heard the Hip was New Oreleans is Sinking at the Top Hat bar in Greenwood NS. Could not really understand the lyrics at all but the tune was so good it didn't matter. It generally took me a few listens to actually get what the poetry was saying. I considered them a great jam band way before I understood they were far more than that.

New Orleans is Sinking is probably my favorite Hip song. 38 Years Old 'Never kissed a Girl' is another great tune.

I completely lost the pulse of rock music with the onset of disco in the mid 70s. But i tuned into the Tragically Hip on occasion because of their authenticity and their committment in topic and form to the Canadian marketplace, rather than as a springboard to the U.S. RiP, Gord.

Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by.

Gord knew this day was coming – his response was to spend this precious time as he always had – making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss… on the lips.

Gord said he had lived many lives. As a musician, he lived “the life” for over 30 years, lucky to do most of it with his high school buddies. At home, he worked just as tirelessly at being a good father, son, brother, husband and friend. No one worked harder on every part of their life than Gord. No one.

We would like to thank all the kind folks at KGH and Sunnybrook, Gord’s bandmates, management team, friends and fans. Thank you for all the help and support over the past two years.

Thank you everyone for all the respect, admiration and love you have given Gord throughout the years – those tender offerings touched his heart and he takes them with him now as he walks among the stars.

Love you forever Gord.

Several radio stations in Toronto have gone All Hip All Day. Heard a song I never heard before "Fiddler's Green". Really like it. Have to see if its on a CD I own or whether I will invest the $1.29 in iTunes.

RIP.

So what? It’s possible to like an artists work and disagree with the artist politically you know.

Sad day though we all knew it was coming. I saw them several times but the last time was particularly memorable. I knew it’d be the last time and made sure I savoured every minute of that show. I still have the ticket well over a year later.
