What do you think Trudeau is quietly doing? Standing back from a war we've been in since 1950?

Canada has no choice but be involved.

Securing North Korean nuclear sites would require a ground invasion, Pentagon says

https://www.washingtonpost.com/?wpisrc=al_news__alert-national&wpmk=1

It almost seems like someone is itchin' for another war....And Trump has already threatened NK with fury etc......and as he is not prone to metaphors....

The only way to do that would be from bases in South Korea and the build-up of American forces would be rather obvious. It could be a dismal failure resulting in the flattening of otherwise prosperous South Korean cities. I'll bet that the South Koreans politely tell Trump to get fooked.

There are already 35,000 us troops/families in South Korea.

They will be the first casualties of any conflict.

They've been there since the 1950's ...hardly a dramatic build-up of forces. How long (measured in minutes) do you figure a 35,000 person US Army garrison is going to last after being thrown at the half million person regular NORK army?

I think properly deployed supplied and supported 35K US troops could hold off 500K north Koreans indefinitely.

On the other hand I don't think they could withstand a nuclear attack.

It is also worth noting that South Korea has a massive armed forces. Over 5 million i believe.

So North Korea is not steam rolling them.

But it would keep the sheeple shaking in their boots and that is the end game of any of these fictitious threats of war. NK has 9 nukes, Yankies have 22,000. China is never going to let this happen. As in the cold war, the players are all in this game together. The ruling elite control the planet. They know no allegiance to any flag. Flags are for sheeple to worship.

You missed the point. The Americans are talking about ATTACK, not defense. That would take a massive and sustained build up and the NORKS would hammer the crap out of Seoul before the Americans got 10% ready.

I think North Korea is a wild card and I don't think they can be controlled in the way other nations are controlled.

If you are thinking about controlling North Korea you want to look at how we did Panama rather than how we did Iraq.

You "did" Panama, did you? You think that North Korea is somehow analogous to Panama? No wonder the US keeps losing war after war.

I think a targeted special op against the leader of North Korea makes a lot more sense than a full scale military engagement.

I am actually arguing to avoid war.

Had we Seal Team 6ed Sadam would we be in worse shape in Iraq than we are now?

I doubt that the Americans can pull it off. Only in Hollywood ...

The Chinese are our best hope. It really is their responsibility. Let's see if they're up to it.

I think they have a better shot at that than at a full scale invasion.

Your confidence in China is touching - but I don't think they have any influence over this guy at all, and if they did they would have used it already.

They still see Comrade Kim as a fellow traveler, apparently (see Putin/,Bashar al-Assad). They'll get over that right quick when refugees start flooding over their borders by the hundreds of thousands and no more crucial Samsung components (like screens) are shipped to the PRC for assembly in the tech products that are making them rich, right now. Truth is, China has far more at stake, there than the USA does.
