For once the Canadian gov't did something right keeping this criminal freak out

Chelsea Manning says she's been denied entry into Canada
Manning was convicted on charges under the U.S. Espionage Act and served 7 years in military prison

Chelsea Manning, the controversial former U.S. intelligence analyst who was convicted in the largest breach of classified information in U.S. history, says she has been denied entry into Canada.

On Monday, Manning tweeted that she's been "permanently banned" from entering Canada. She included a picture of a letter that appears to alert the minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship that Manning has not been authorized to enter Canada and is "inadmissible" due to her prior convictions.

The name of the sender of the letter has been redacted

This is a good move by the Canadian government. The Americans have been denying entrance to Muslim Canadians seeking to cross the border for as benign a reason as shopping or visiting relatives for no other reason except that they are Muslims.

Oh boo-f*cking-hoo. You whiny bitches act like you're the only ones that have ever been denied entry at the US border. Newsflash: Just because you live in Canada does not give you the god-given right to enter the US anytime you want. Prior to 9/11 I had a temporary work permit for the US. After 9/11 they refused to renew my permit and I'm as non-muslim as you can get.
If you're looking for sympathy, you can find it between shit and syphilis in the dictionary.

Of course, the key question is whether all Muslims are being denied entry, and whether all surly Old Stock Canadians are being denied entry.

Happens all the time dude. I don't know if US Customs and Border Patrol still does this but even prior to 9/11 if you weren't White or Black and especially if you had an accent, they would require you to provide proof of permanent residency in Canada before letting you across. I rather suspect that's what's getting the bulk of recent immigrants in general turned back at the border. If you happen to live in a border city, it's just a very mild inconvenience. If you traveled a couple of hours or more to get to the border, it's a major pain in the ass and will likely cause you to cancel or postpone your trip.
And the thing with the temp work permits, very few, if any Canadians were able to get theirs renewed after 9/11. I had 3 levels of police criminal clearance, Govt of Canada security clearance and multiple clearances from US Customs and Border Patrol and still couldn't get mine renewed after 9/11.
Shit happens. I remember one time as kid my parents and I were going to the States. I can't remember why and that's probably because we got turned back. My father was born in Wales and his b/c is a large fold-up piece of paper. The border guard didn't believe that it was a b/c and never heard of Wales so back to Canada we were sent.

People need to realize that just because the US and Canada generally have pretty friendly relations, it's not your god-given right to cross the border any time you wish. The border guards on either side can refuse you entry for any reason.

What people fail to recognize is that no country is obliged to admit any non-citizen, and rightly can deny entry for any reason, or no reason at all.

It is like your house. You are not required to let anyone in you don't want there, and no explanation is required.

I'm afraid that is incorrect. In the United States, discrimination on certain bases is illegal.

And it is not like your house. Comparing a country to one person's private residence is as foolish as comparing the national budget to a household budget.
