Video of Jagmeet Singh responding to a heckler who accused him of wanting to impose "sharia law" is drawing attention to the NDP leadership candidate on Facebook and YouTube.

The incident at a meet-and-greet on Wednesday in Brampton, Ont., involved an angry woman who stood in the front of the candidate and shouted as aides tried to usher her aside.

The heckler appeared to be confused about "sharia law," which is an Islamic law tradition, while Singh is Sikh, an unrelated faith.

I am curious if this was a setup. The amount of coverage this has given this particular candidate is pretty high. Until I had seen this story I had never even heard of Mr. Singh. Of course I haven't really heard of any of the NDP candidates. The NDP seems to be the completely forgotten party in Canadian politics.

Has the heckler been identified yet? Usually in these cases with this much media attention the person is "outed" on Facebook and then loses their job.

Its weird that there are still people who don't know the difference between a Sihk and a Muslim. Especially if you live in Southern Ontario. You would literally have to be living under a rock your whole life to not know the difference, especially if your from Brampton.

Video taken with a video cam. on 4x3 on a tripod, not taken with a cell phone
Definite setup...

Northern Ontario,
It takes a global warmist and ideologue to be taken in by such an obvious set-up!

Im just surprised that the CBC isn't trying to out her right now. Which is weird because when someone speaks like this that is what they usually do.

So is this a sign of a change from the CBC.

Or are they still going to name the people who are recorded on camera telling someone to go back to their country?

Heckler at NDP Jagmeet Singh event an example of racism in Canada, prof says

TORONTO — A political science professor says a racist heckler that interrupted a campaign rally for NDP leadership hopeful Jagmeet Singh is an example of the discrimination that deters minorities from politics.

A video posted on YouTube of Singh's campaign event in Brampton, Ont., earlier this week shows a woman interrupting his speech and accusing him of supporting Shariah law and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Singh, who is Sikh, responds to the woman saying he supports and loves her, and that he won't be intimidated by hate.

"Everyone in this room loves you, we all support you, we believe in your rights," he said as she continued yelling at him in front of a crowd of supporters.

Erin Tolley, an associate professor at the University of Toronto, said the incident is a reminder that although Canada promotes multiculturalism, racist views are still prevalent.

"I think one danger in Canada is we become very congratulatory about our multiculturalism ... but to some extent that conceals the number of Canadians that harbour racist sentiments," she said.

Tolley said studies have shown about 30 per cent of Canadians hold racist opinions and while they may not all be vocal about their views, it does influence how they vote.
