They put her in a jail cell so she would be there and be coherent so they could convict the asshole.

No witness, no conviction.

On the other hand we did have to ban a native gal with mental problems from the homeless shelter I volunteer at, because she admitted that saying "a volunteer worker had grabbed her by the thingy" was a fib.

but that was more a mental health related issue then racial.
