The Canadian government jailed over 87,317 migrants without charge between 2006-2014, and spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars over five years to detain migrants. Migrants are the only population within Canada who can be jailed simply on administrative grounds without being charged with a specific criminal offense.

Keep up the good work!

It is half a millenial less than a monumental amount, but a bit more than an epic amount. A quick search of the internet and i was able to curate the definition.

So, how is OUR deluge coming? Have illegals overrun Winnipeg, yet?

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

You realize that when this was written people who flooded into America had little choice but to support themselves or die? Nobody came in on a boat and was given an apartment to live in, supplied with food and clothing, and a monthly stipend to take care of the bills.

I want to be ensured that child molesters and door to door salesmen dont exploit this "open door" policy that canada is extending to non-trumpite americans. Any word on canada commiting to be thorough with all applicants?

From what CBSA has said, half these people have "serious criminal records".

I doubt if this will come as a shock to you, but you are a little "pig ignorant" yourself. I don't see what a person's occupation be it goat herder or assistant to the Queen has to do with anything. I think we should help our own people first but after that we should help others who need help just for the reason we may need help ourselves some day. The cost is secondary and for many in Canada not a big encumbrance given all the "toys" and tattoos and piercings etc. people are able to buy on a daily basis. Anyway get a little class! :)

.

You don't actually have any idea how much this costs, do you? To give you a clue, in the UK, a government financial watchdog has estimated the cost of resettling 20,000 Syrian refugees - less than half what we've taken - at approximately $3.5 BILLION Canadian.
Most of these people will never work, or if they do it will be a minimum wage job. We will be responsible for all government services provided for them for decades, including health care, which is already overloaded.

Some will work at minimum wage jobs while others will pursue a career in medicine, engineering, plumbing, carpentry, welding, logging, mining, fishing etc. I've never thought the measure of a man lies in how he earns a living, but rather in how well he does the job, be it hauling garbage or doing brain surgery...................they are all necessary and actually far more people depend on the garbage hauler.

$3.5 billion!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That much probably gets blown on every space mission! Isn't it a lot better to invest it in people's well being? If you were in dire straits and someone came to your aid, would you refuse it?

$3.5 billion? Who the hell made up that number? The cost in Canada is estimated at $1.2 billion over six years and Canada brought in more refugees than the Brits.

These people speak no English or French. Eventually, they will learn to speak English - poorly. They have no connections and no education. Why is it you people will readily admit the prospects for a Canadian who is a high school dropout are exceedingly poor yet feel that immigrants, who have even less education, plus no language skills or contacts is going to do any better? These people are not going to be brain surgeons OR garbage haulers. They'll be minimum wage collectors, at best, which means they pay no income tax, which means all their health care and other services have to be paid for by Canadians for the rest of their lives.

But our governments have a habit of lying to us about the costs of immigration and refugees. They'll give you some costs, but not others. For example, I doubt the cost of their ongoing health care will be figured into the above, since the provinces will have to eat that. Even a little effort at basic arithmetic, never mind math, will show you how nonsensical the Canadian figure is. 50,000 people x 15,000 per year (being HUGELY conservative) will come out to $4.5 billion over 6 years.

And who says the costs stop after six years?

We don't have space missions, and if we're to invest billions in people's well-being shouldn't it be our own people's well being as opposed to foreigners?

Let's get hung up on semantics shall we? I'm talking about objects leaving planet earth for a celestial destination! Can I word it any simpler?
