The Catholic Church is actually not against Capital Punishment in all cases, although Francis, and in fact i am in most cases. Exceptions would be instances where a nation is fighting for its own survival, in genocidal war and such. There are doctrines of 'just' wars, despite all of their collateral damage. He appointed a judge in Gorsuch who is explicitly pro Life, and wrote a book on the dangers of assisted suicide. So actions count more than political statements.. especially with Trump.. who always tailors his comments to his immediate audience.
