Were they ever? As far back as I can remember, the elections have always been fixed in both the US and Canada..

You don't remember very far so far as Canada is concerned. It was the Harper government that brought in the "fixed" election date. And it was the Harper government that was the first to ignore the fixed date, which really means that it is not really fixed at all.

Clinton won the popular vote in a landslide but not the electoral college.
Imagine the American forefathers who really thought this process through
And the system failed they invoked the college to make sure a person as
mentally unstable as Trump never got elected.
The cost is high but a shill game is expensive to play.

Absolutely correct. If the Electoral College actually worked the Dumpster would still be hyping real estate. Oh wait, he's still doing that isn't he?

Please explain how the electoral college did not work? Because the candidate you wanted to be elected wasn't? :)

not to mention all the illegal votes were found to be for clinton
they need a dictionary meaning for the word republic

what these clowns want is "two wolves and a sheep voting on whats for dinner"
and they think it should be us
I say "effe youze ;)" for that

republic:
"A republic (Latin: res publica) is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter" – not the private concern or property of the rulers – and where offices of state are elected or appointed, rather than inherited. It is a government where the head of state is not a monarch and government leaders exercise power according to the rule of law.

In American English, the definition of a republic can also refer specifically to a government in which elected individuals represent the citizen body, known elsewhere as a representative democracy (a democratic republic)."

Guess we start them with something simple like wikipedia

Trump family trips cost taxpayers $11.3m in one month – almost as much as Obama’s cost in a year

Donald Trump’s family’s trips have cost taxpayers nearly as much in a month as Barack Obama’s cost in an entire year.

The US President’s three visits to his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida since his presidential inauguration, combined with his sons’ business trips, reportedly cost $11.3m (£9.1m).

Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch estimated Mr Obama’s travel expenses totalled an average $12.1m in each of his eight years in the White House.

THE REST:
Trump family trips cost taxpayers $11.3m in one month

A perfectly executed con. Though I think conservatives in America might be worried that money could be better spent on jails and instruments of mass murder.

The electoral college worked exactly the way it was intended. It might not be a good system but it works as designed. It is supposed to add some balance to the difference in population between states. Something Canada lacks with our PFP system. Which also works as intended.

What's your source for that?
