They hold enough debt to sink the US if they wanted to unload that debt and crash the USD.
As soon as the USD isn't the reserve currency, the US becomes a third world hell hole.
The chinese don't want to do this, because they would rather not lose their savings, and their biggest market, but push them, and they will pull that plug.
