It's no secret to most of the people I know that I would like to see a female president before I die. The reasons go back thousands of years and on up to the present. I remember a neo-confucianist quote I read years ago, " a woman ruler is like a hen crowing." How long has that sentiment been in effect ? I wasn't sold on Ms. Clinton this year any more than I was sold on Trump. I hope things work out okay now that we have an electee. I have five sisters. My mother took care of all 6 of us when our dad left. My ex wife and I raised 3 daughters. No boys. So maybe that has a little to do with my preference of a female president over a male. I could go into character comparisons between the two but there's no point now. I hope some day it comes true. The word "philosophy ' is from the greek Philo- Sophia which translated means "Love of Wisdom" One day, "Wisdom" will have her day.

I don't really consider gender to be a criteria, as I believe ability is not dependent on gender. I think what is important is getting the best person available at the time to do the job and if it happens to be female fine and if it happens to be male fine.

I'm sure. I've known however through experience that males, in my life anyway, do not possess the nurturing characteristic that females do. Whether that is an important quality in being a leader is a matter of opinion.

Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt some jobs are better suited to one gender or the other and with some jobs it doesn't make a difference. The female is likely better on average at any job involving small children.

I would say that, based on the visious misogyny that was aimed at Clinton, the American public is nowhere near ready for a woman President. It will be a long wait, yet.

You may have to vote in Germany to see that happen. However, there is still Elizabeth Warren. So far as I know she does not have a checkered past like Clinton and is a much better speaker.

Perhaps you failed to note that Maggie Thatcher had all the "nurturing characteristic" of Jack the Ripper.

Problem here is that you're overgeneralizing. Even assuming arguendo that women are more "nurturing" than men generally, that tells you nothing about any particular woman, like a presidential candidate.

I'm for promotions' based on merit. This election, in my opinion had nothing to do with merit, otherwise Clinton would have won, she had more experience than most presidents, she had the right accreditation, and more than capable of transitioning right in the oval office with very little training. In my opinion, did being a women hurt her, I would say yes. But this election was about people looking for a change, many of Trumps rhetoric touched on peoples' fear of immigration, corruption, rich vs poor, lost of jobs, and in a big way it was his willingness to shock and say the unsayable. Obviously for many it validated their fear, belief and their insecurities. For some individual & organizations, they were looking at their own image.

I have no problem with a woman in the WH. It will happen, eventually.

If my experience with women as bosses is any indicator, they can be just as smart and strong-willed as any man I've known and meaner too LOL

Quite often. Except for the ones in government that got their job based on gender equality instead of merit. My experience with them is lots of attitude and not much sense.

Wait a minute. Ordinarily you'd deny with your dying breath that any government employee had any merit at all.

It's nice that you've found someone you hate even more than you hate government employees.

Has there ever been a woman lead a major nation for reasonable length of time that hasn't gone to war? Maybe Merkel. Time will tell.
