Former Alberta Premier and longtime cabinet minister Jim Prentice was one of four people killed when a small plane bound for Alberta crashed in a remote area of B.C.'s Okanagan. The Cessna citation jet had just taken off from Kelowna International Airport around 10 p.m. Thursday night when the aircraft disappeared off radar, said Bill Yearwood of the Transportation Board.

The aircraft was destined for Springbank, just outside Calgary.

"It was as during climb out from Kelowna that something went wrong obviously to cause the aircraft to descend and collide with terrain," Yearwood told CTV Morning Live.

All four occupants of the private business-style aircraft were killed.

Kelowna and Lake Country RCMP detachments dispatched several teams to the jet's last known location after being alerted by the Surrey Air Traffic Control Centre that it had lost contact with the jet, according to Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

The wreckage was found about two hours later, in a remote area north of Kelowna, northeast of Winfield.

"Investigators located the crash site approximately four kilometres into a heavily wooded area," Moskaluk said in a news release.

A team from the Transportation Safety Board is headed to the crash site in hopes of determining what went wrong.

That is a shock.

Jim Prentice was one of the good ones, which is probably why he left Ottawa.

Flying in the mountains is a dangerous business, always.

I had a lot of respect for Jim and this is indeed a very sad day. He most certainly was one of the 'good ones'. Fare thee well Jim and my condolences to his family.

A shame it wasn't Notley

Same thing happened to her dad, Grant. A CFIT, (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) near Grand Prairie, I remember that one too. It was a Wapiti Aviation Navajo, (we called them What a pity Aviation). Sorry, I don't wish that on anyone, as much as I dislike Grant's daughter. Wapiti was shut down because is was, I don't know what to say, an awful organisation. I knew folks who worked there. I haven't heard who operated the Citation Jim Prentice chartered, but nowadays very experienced flight crews are quite available, they don't normally work for sketchy companies, not like in Grant Notley's day where inexperienced pilots would sell their souls for a job and $h!t pay. But only time and investigation will tell, maybe.

Which passenger was the hit done for? Any bankers or doctors on the plane with Prentice. The mechanics get blamed of course.
