check your fuel gouge...er, gauge.

TORONTO — Motorists and most homeowners in Ontario will be among those to feel the first effects of the Liberal government’s cap-and-trade plan, paying more for gasoline and natural gas.

Premier Kathleen Wynne revealed some of the impacts on consumers Wednesday, such as an increase of about 4.3 cents a litre on gas and about $5 more per month on residential natural gas, before the legislation enabling cap-and-trade was to be introduced.

“The cost of doing nothing is much, much higher than the cost of going forward and reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” she said.

Quebec did something like this many years ago and their gas is typically about a dime more per litre due to the extra tax. It has had an interesting effect over time, though. You will see a lot more fuel efficient and smaller cars on the road, there. If that is the intention of Big Brother in Ontario, they may succeed eventually but it could take decades like it did in Quebec.

What we have happening right now, as young adults enter our economy, many simply give up. Turn to welfare and consume crack.

In the end, the poor in our society will see the difficulty to purchase & maintain a vehicle increase. A very big step in merging and being a functional member of our economy.

The damages will out weight the gains.

Question... do people on the border cross to the US to fill up?

Depends on how close. I think you gotta work out the gas you will burn to fill up, and then the exchange rate and comparative price to see if it is worth while. When travelling to the states I always make sure I have just enough gas to get across the border to fill up and cross the border back with a full tank.

New Ontario Law Will Increase Gas By 4.3 Cents Per Litre, Permanetely

You might wanna ask for a raise when you get into work today because the cost of life in Ontario is about to go up again. Ontario has passed legislation creating a cap-and-trade system to fight climate change, which is expected to add $5 a month to home heating bills and about 4.3 cents to the price of a litre of gasoline.

Under cap and trade, industries are given specific pollution limits, but can sell their emission allowances to other companies if they come in below their annual limit, or buy credits if they exceed it. The province plans to hold its first auction of pollution credits in early 2017, and expects to raise $1.9 billion a year from the plan, promising to use the money to help people and companies transition to a low carbon economy. The Chamber of Commerce this week urged the Liberals to delay implementation of cap and trade for one year, saying key questions remain unanswered.

I don't think climat is the reason people voted for Liberals.
