Even more reasons to cheat the system. Like people needed more.
The system the Liberals have just added to, is already cheating the people.

They haven't really made it any better. Just because one is eligible doesn't mean that they will be successful in receiving a grant. This is being lauded as progress, when it's just the creation of more red tape, hurdles and a facade of 'giving more' to the people.

The true goal should be tuition free higher learning, not discriminatory tiered access. Progs like Flossy wouldn't accept a tiered healthcare system, but a Liberal forwarded tiered education system is ok. The ignorance of these hypocrites is astounding.

I think so too.

I hope there's a limit if they're not planning on basing education on dedication. There will always be the life-long takers on any free ride

I hear you.

Student loans are based on need rather than the ability to pay it back. It is not clear to me why a free education for poor people is required. Will educated poor people get paid less when they graduate?

A building can only hold so many people....so here's what happens. Distance learning.

What is the success rate of distance learning?

More to the point it doesn't guarantee they will either graduate or obtain good paying jobs to help recoup the taxpayer's investment.

That should depend on what they want to study. Engineering and medicine yes but not for stupid $hit like french literature or art history.

I sort of agree. History in general can be pretty valuable. Not overly so when it comes to employment in most areas but it does help one be a better citizen. It is unfortunate how little many seem to know about our past. Of course having been a history major I am a bit biased.

Agreed. I'm hoping this could be the first step towards that. Though really even if it is I dont see it happening for at least another 10-15 years at least.

Can you name a system people wouldnt try to cheat?

I am sure that my daughter would have enjoyed her university life much more, if she hadn't needed to work those summers in order to pay for the next year. I think that, part of the reason, she worked like a dog during the school.year. She finished her education with graduating with, Great Distinction from the College of Commerce. Now yes she is a bright girl but she worked for that degree, not spend time at the pool. On top of it, for now, Saskatchewan is a have province and Ontario a have not. Rubs me the wrong way.

I think we need to be forward-thinking when it comes to post-secondary educational policy. We should be looking at post-secondary education as something that everyone has the opportunity to access, and we should not be so concerned about how hard other people have had to work for that opportunity in the past. Access to full-time work, too, is something fraught with barriers and systemic discrimination for certain groups.

Who is being discriminated? Once you crack 25 anyone can apply for university as an adult without meeting GPA requirements and anyone can get a student loan.
