"Strategic voting" about the sickest thing I've heard of.

If there is a Conservative minority government and there is a vote of no-confidence in Harper, the Governor General has two options:

1.) Go to another election
2.) The other parties get to decide who would form government and become PM

If option#2 applies and they can't decide then we go to another election.

The GG will not pick option#1 unless Harper was just shy of a majority and he thinks another election would guarantee a majority.

In option#2 there is no way the other parties will disagree unless their respective seat count is very close and there is a strong chance one of them could emerge with a majority in another election.

The likeliest scenario is that they oust Harper and agree that Shiny Pony would lead and form government.
Option 2 requires an agreement for a coalition govt. They had the chance to do that before and couldn't (or wouldn't)

Odds are Harper would prorogue govt before a non-confidence vote and call an election himself like he has in the past. Who cares how much it costs as long as he saves face in his own mind.

And what would give Jr. the right to oust Harper? What situation do you find a newby walk in off the street and take over the C.E.O.'s job? Altogether too much of this "Tail wagging the dog"!

Harpo "walked off the street" the first time in office. Trudeau has been in parliament since when? How many years service do either of them have? You don't seem to understand the concept of non-confidence vote leaving the job to the next guy on the totem pole.

It's simple.

The NDP and Liberals can vote together on any issue in the house to defeat the Conservatives.

Choosing a new leader and representatives for the government would work the same way.

That's democracy.

Tail wagging the dog? You must be referring to how the govt controls the citizens when the citizens are supposed to control the govt.

Harper wouldn't do that this time around. It would essentially be political suicide now.

Also, they don't need a formal coalition.

They just need to know what issues to come together on and if they should negotiate policies.

Bob Rae and David Peterson did the same thing in Ontario in the 80s.

They basically went on a 2 year contract.

Proportional Representation IS the way to go.

It would alleviate all of this ****.

And you can do it in a way that does not require you to vote for two people or rank your choices or whatever.

Your riding guy is still your guy.

They just add seats to the caucus until the proportionality is met.

So, the 2 of you want to dump the parliamentary democracy that we have and copy the americans?

Might as well try it. What we have doesn't seem to work too well.

Term limits is a really good idea.

No way any of the big 3 will ever consider it. They would rather see the other guy win than change the system for the better. They are fine examples of protectionists.

Yeah, a non confidence vote led by two people who LOST the election- About the same amount of credibility as the convicted axe murderer appealing his/her conviction!

But between them they would have more support and more seats than Harpo. Personally, I would rather see the Orange Crush like in Alberia, just to shake the sh!t out of the system. I'm sick of being ruled by faceless corporate entities who don't give a damn about people, only profits. Liberals and Conservatives have been around since confederation and both parties are beyond corrupt and stink of old man's clubs, resplendent with caviar farts and beer piss. Tom is so center of the road he looks like an old school liberal, nothing like a commie like cons and libs would have us believe. If we're going to be lied to, I would rather a fresh face to lie to me. Hell, if I thought she had a chance I would vote Green. At least I wouldn't get razor burn when she was whispering lies in my ear.

Tom sounds good until you dig deep for convincing answers or until you start doing the math. At least with Jr. he's truthful enough to admit he's going to leave us with a bill. I rec'd an email from Tom's local minion that the N.D.P. could both handle 25,000 refugees and bring all our marginalized people up to economic standard.

They are all going to leave you with a bill your great grand children will not be able to pay off. You cannot borrow money from a central bank at interest and ever be able to pay it back. If Canadians actually knew about the banking system that enslaves all countries, there would be open revolt in the streets tomorrow.

The right wing crazies post stuff in elections like Obama is an Alien and
not a citizen a Muslim and so on
The conservatives spread crap like there will be brothels in your neighbourhood
if you vote Liberal and so on.
So now the left has taken up the challenge how do we get rid of the right right in
power. They do a riding by riding suggestion as to who is second and all pile on
to defeat the Tory incumbent or not Or they will now send you a nude if you vote
and against Harper. Crazies on the left and right are nothing new.

I don't like the idea of sending a nude photo to someone for voting some do
I also don't want to rid us of all conservative voices that is as bad as what we have
now all right voices with little accountability they have 30% of the voters that's it.

We need to be voting individually for the Prime Minister as well and sorry to say
with a two term limit Yes I have changed my view a bit but I don't want proportional
representation

The nude photo is satire on the 'strategic voting' concept..... ........

Stephen Harper has proven himself to totally lacking in vision, passion, integrity, courage, comprehension, eloquence, imagination, patriotism for Canada. It's time to give this pathetic, imcompetent little corporate quisling the boot.. whatever way it is achieved.

Stephen Harper has proven to have vision, integrity, courage, comprehension, eloquence and patriotism for Canada.

Trudeau has exhibited passion for promises he can't keep and Mulcair has a great imagination - that his government will be able to provide Canadians with simply everything.

While Harper may seem lack passion, it doesn't mean he's not passionate; while he may seem not to exhibit imagination, he sees Canada, while large in landmass but small in population, as a leading light in human rights and freedoms; in encouraging business to be inventive and resourceful and providing them with the opportunities to do what they do best throughout the world.

So, you've just got it backwards a bit

You just copy and pasted that off their brochure, didn't you. Although I disagree with coldsream on many issues, his assessment of Harper is bang on. Maybe you should look at him without the rose coloured glasses.

It's refreshing to find I have an ally in my opinions of Harper. I've been listening to Mulehair babbling & hallucinating non stop on the radio this morning saying he is the only one who can beat Harper. I think there's probably a lot of the strong silent types who see the facts as we do and don't be surprised if you see Harper as the winner tomorrow night. Go Stephen go!

Cliffy, if you don't think you should listen to me that doesn't bother me but you really should pay attention to Dixie Cup, she speaks the truth.
