I think one of the problems is when people are looking for God they are looking for the wrong thing and that will never happen. Many of them are looking for someone who will fix things and make everything right. "God" is what makes
you capable of accomplishing
some of that. It's been proven beyond doubt that man is not the supreme being in the world.
!
being a believer and obedient to a god/and/or religion have not made this world a better place,
not at all, those beliefs come between groups, and drive them apart, not closer together, we
could have a better chance to get along in this world together without that barrier.
religions are no different than large corporations competing for people, for their money, and for
their obedience.
the funniest thing I hear as we read through posts is the 'hell' thing, is it really true that people
still believe there is a hell, that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard, but as a child I was
very obedient and fearful, and at times worried that if I wasn't a very very good girl, I could very
well end up in hell, what an abusive thing to tell a child, I remember very clearly how I felt
all thru my childhood as a little catholic girl, attending catholic school, I learned many things
as a catholic girl growing up, and the most sensible thing I did later on, was to take a long hard
look and see the truth of what they are really doing to people, but never again 'to me' thank you.
when people think god is helping them thru a problem it is their own strength they have found, their
ability to find their way along, figure it out, survive, nothing else has done that, the person
has done it, what is between one's ears is the power and the key, if they are happy thinking that
a god has helped them, so be it, that is ok, but it was really just them, they just don't know
their own strength, that power they reached out to, is within their own being, they are really
believing in their own power.
I do have a very strong belief system, but it is for the human being itself, nothing else.
my husband has a very worrisome skin cancer problem, and our neighbour on two occasions told us that
she will pray for him in church on sunday, we thanked her very much, and she went away feeling quite
helpful and happy to do that, and we just looked at each other and smiled, and agreed that she thinks
she's helping, she's a nice lady, a kind lady, and our friend, and if she knew that we are both
non believers she would probably be horrified, and sad for us, and think we don't have a chance to
get to heaven. I don't think she could handle the thought that we don't believe in any god, she would
think that is impossible, people just can't do that.
she'll never know, for her own sake, but she will always be our friend and good neighbour.
I agree, we don't know at all how and why we are here, but because we don't know doesn't mean we have
to decide their could be a god, we just don't know, so I'm not going to make up something while we
wait to find out.
whatever power that got us here will be something much more realistic and sensible than a god.
