Denial-it's not just a river in Egypt. Can you really call it an N.D.P. win?
Not living in Alberta could someone please tell me why the PC's were voted out, other than they were just becoming NDP lite.
I wonder if we'll see any ripples in the stock market tomorrow ?
Denial-it's not just a river in Egypt.
I certainly don't know all the reasons (which probably number in the hundreds) but Alison Redford absolutely sickened me while flitting around the globe on social engagements and "sticking" it to the electorate along with her friends and relatives. Just a real f**king hypocrite! How many times has Prentice jumped ship in his career. In his books Jim was #1.
I ain't Canadian or nothing, but usually I call 53-31 a win.Can you really call it an N.D.P. win?
Thanks. Anything else?I certainly don't know all the reasons (which probably number in the hundreds) but Alison Redford absolutely sickened me while flitting around the globe on social engagements and "sticking" it to the electorate along with her friends and relatives. Just a real f**king hypocrite! How many times has Prentice jumped ship in his career. In his books Jim was #1. Wild Rose was probably part of the equation- maybe slightly more ingenuous!
Alberta NDP leader Rachel Notley releases election platform
Notley said she would not introduce a sales tax, but would reintroduce a progressive income tax that would affect Albertans who earn more than $125,000.
Other points include banning corporate and union donations to political parties, creating 2,000 new long-term care beds over the next four years and increasing the corporate tax in Alberta to 12 per cent. Notley said she would also eliminate the PCs health levy.
The NDP said its framework rewards job creation by creating a tax credit that rebates 10 per cent of the wages paid to new hires, up to a total salary of $50,000.
“We can operate the government honestly and openly. We can protect health and education and make them better. We can help working and middle class families by getting rid of Jim Prentice’s health levy. We can preserve the Alberta advantage with no sales tax,” Notley said.
“And we can ask those who have profited so handsomely from our resources to contribute a little more, instead of cutting your family’s health care and education.”

Wow.
Now that is impressive.
I wonder what it all means?
I ain't Canadian or nothing, but usually I call 53-31 a win.
True, it's more of a PC defeat than an NDP win. I think that's what happened in BC in 2001. It wasn't so much a Liberal victory as an NDP defeat (and boy did they get thrashed). We've had a Liberal government since. So look out Alberta you may be stuck with this government for 14 years.
I don't know if you follow CFL, but sometimes the team with more total yardage ends up on the short end of the scoreboard. They still lose.If you look at the popular vote and not the seat count, the race was actually much closer than the results indicate, and while both the PCs and the Wildrose Party both lost votes to the NDP, the final tally showed that they garnered only 40% of the popular vote.
Maybe Jim Prentice isn't doing it for the people. Maybe he's been working for some other interest all along. I wonder what that could possibly be.
Spade;2108891 The truth is the median age in Alberta is 36.5. Youth and democracy have spoken.[/QUOTE said:Yeah, it's strange, when I was a youth we wanted jobs. I guess the alternative was just too sickening!

cons only get in office at all because of political apathy from most of the population.
yea it's true. if youngrr voters became less apathetic cons would never get in office. older people are comforted in their status quo with their OAS, not thinking about the future or advancements in technology and science. not thinking of the real possibility of jobs becoming obsolete. etcYeah riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
Harpo got even less that that in the popular vote but Tories all scream about what a great victory it was and how the people had chose the winner. In this system there really is no winners when the majority of the population is not represented by their government.I understand that, I'm just saying that while the NDP do have the reins now, it's not quite the sweep that is being portrayed in the media. There's 60% of voters out there who supported the small 'c' conservative end of the spectrum.
