I was just getting reading to ask that myself, Colpy, but I hesitated thinking I should perhaps do some more reading!
Well it seems you have missed the whole battle for women's rights. When I was young, I was refused birth-control pills by two pharmacies and had to go nearly 40 miles for a renewal. Since today, Harper has stated he is against providing birth control as part of relief packages (which has been supplied with Canada's aid for decades) does indicate, in my opinion, how things would go for women in Canada, if he thought for one minute he could get away with it.

Talk about trying to extend one's control over women everywhere. Never mind, I am sure you would have paid more attention to women's fight for liberty over their bodies, if it had included restrictions on condoms for men....right??

They don't like it, then we don't need to send any aid. We could use the money here in Canada. Or do you feel that contraception in some 3rd world country is more important than food and shelter for our homeless. Or ensuring that our Children's hospitals have everything they need for the kids in their care?
Far from an anti abortion bill. I can understand though how the selfish and self centered would not want ANYTHING risking their ability to kill baby's willy nilly.
They have access.They may not be able to get a doc to vacuum it out within 10 mins of their front door, but they all do have access.
So, for you abortion is all about birth control. No surprise.
and abortion isn't about "rights", it's about women not willing to take responsibility for their actions. For the men that support the present lack of laws in Canada, it's about them also not willing to take responsibility for their actions.

You don't want to get pregnant, cross your bloody legs. Have some personal responsibility for your body as a women, isn't that what you been asking for..
Also, I don't believe women should be able to have an abortion as easy as going to the 7/11 for a slushy.
Should be more restrictive and only in case of rape and health reasons for the mother.
It's funny how Liberals don't want to kill a convicted killer in prison, but find it easy to kill an innocent child with abortion.
And what homework would that be? When someone "crosses the floor" AFTER they've been elected by people who thought they knew the candidates platforms and philosophy, I think any onus is on them. All I plan on doing is watching the woman!

To me the subject is about an M.P. switching parties and I failed to see any mention of women's rights, so I'm beginning to wonder if you are responding to the thread you think you are! I'm beginning to wonder if Jr.'s cozying up to Eve doesn't eclipse all his other short comings that we've seen. I don't think he's P.M. material! I really doubt if he's "material" suitable to clean the washrooms.
OMG, it figures.......Well come back with that load of rubbish when science has made enough progress to implant a fetus in a male body to carry and raise. Even that evil book the BIBLE does not recognize fetal tissue as a living being until it takes it's first breath. In my opinion, a human's right to choose the purpose her body will be used, belongs only to them.
And NO abortion for me is not all about birth control. It is about the right to choose. I had a normal birth, one miscarriage and twins. After that any conceptions would have been still born ......which would have meant, regular D & C's. So, birth control pills were essential.
And NO abortions even done in doctors offices are NOT available in locally in most of Canada.
Oh and Boomer, Until a fetus draws it first breath it is not a child, merely a collection of tissue. It is neither innocent nor guilty, as it does not have a functioning brain in the period allowed for abortions.
We paid for birth control pills out of pocket. We paid for hospitalization,doctors, anesthetics, delivery room and nursery fees ourselves as well. These days, I believe families still pay for birth control pills unless they have added insurance. Women had to fight to have those included under the insurance plans they paid for! As for that prejudicial remark about risky behavior, should women refuse marital sex and only indulge if and when she wants children? Maybe, the health care should consider funding vibrators instead. Easy enough to do away with risky behavior right!!
All male contraceptives have to be "paid for" also. Men don't get a pass on that, unlike what you imply.

My apology for veering off the topic but last night I caught part of a documentary on babies on C.B.C. T.V. They've recently found that a baby's food preferences are the same as what the mother was eating while pregnant! Would that have something to do with a functioning brain while still in the womb? Do you suppose, Bluebyrd?
So uhh, I don't want to dampen the mood of this thread or anything but I think I should mention the pressing issue that a leaked sex tape of Eve going solo would not offend me in the slightest.

If Harper et al wanted abortion to be illegal, it would be illegal.
In fact, Harper has blocked every move towards creating new abortion legislation, exactly as he said he would.
